Emergence

The musicians have been working on the songs for the new album since 2008. From the riffs collected during this time, the songs that were ultimately used for the album were created during the studio stay. In February 2010, the band separated from guitarist Jesper Strömblad because of his alcohol problems. His successor was Niclas Engelin , who had previously helped out several times as a live guitarist at In Flames. Engelin wasn't involved in the songwriting for Sounds of a Playground Fading , however.

The album was recorded in the band's own IF studios in Gothenburg . The recordings lasted from October to Christmas 2010. In contrast to previous albums, singer Anders Fridén was present in the studio from day one and worked out vocal melodies. Most of the songs on the new album were written by guitarist Björn Gelotte .

Was produced Sounds of a Playground Fading by Roberto Laghi. The band and Daniel Bergstrand appeared as co-producers. The album was mixed by Roberto Laghi, Anders Fridén and Hans Asteberg. The mastering was done by Dragan Tasaskovic.

With the album title, singer Anders Fridén expresses his concern about the current state of the earth.

“Humanity is at a point where time is slowly running out. There are only a few untouched places on this planet [...] that will eventually disappear. I have the impression that more and more terrible things are happening on earth. "

- Fridén is different
