Stefan Schlueter

Stefan Schlueter (* 1952 in Baden-Baden ) is a former German diplomat . Most recently he was the German Consul General in San Francisco / USA from 2014 until his retirement in 2017 .

Life

After graduating from high school in Hamburg in 1971 , Schlüter studied political science from 1972 to 1978 at the University of Hamburg , graduating as a political scientist . In 1979 he joined the Foreign Service , after completing his attaché training in 1981, his first assignment at the embassy in Argentina followed .

He then worked at the embassy in Algeria from 1984 to 1986 and then at the embassy in Israel , from 1990 to 1992 he was employed at the headquarters in the Foreign Office in Bonn . This was followed by a position as deputy of the consul general in Los Angeles until 1995 and then as deputy head of department in the Foreign Office. From 2000 and 2004 he was Deputy at the Consulate General in New York City , after which he was Deputy. Ambassador to the Embassy in Argentina . From 2007 to 2010 he was head of division at the Foreign Office in Berlin, responsible for u. a. Conflict prevention, promotion of democratization and equipment assistance. From 2010 to 2014 Stefan Schlüter was also accredited as ambassador to Trinidad and Tobago in Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines and Suriname. Before he retired in 2017, he had one last assignment as Consul General in San Francisco.

Even after his retirement, he continues to work at the Diplomatic Academy of the Federal Foreign Office in Berlin as the program director of the seminars offered for diplomats from Latin America and the Caribbean.
