Subterranean (English "underground") is an EP by the Swedish metal band In Flames , which was first released on June 15, 1995.

Emergence

The album was recorded in the Fredman studio . It was produced by Frederik Nordström and In Flames themselves. Staffan Olofsson took care of the mastering . Guest musicians were Henke Forss from Dawn on vocals, Hammerfall guitarist Oscar Dronjak (vocals with Stand Ablaze ) and Anders Jivarp (drums with Subterranean and Biosphere ). The artwork was designed by Dennis Jernberg.

After the album, the band was signed by Nuclear Blast . Later re-releases include the pieces Dead Eternity (text and vocals by Joakim Göthberg ; only officially appeared on the following album The Jester Race ), The Inborn Lifeless (vocals by Göthberg; also featured on The Jester Race , but with a different text than Dead God in Me ), as well as the cover songs Eye of the Beholder (vocals by Ancient Slumber singer Robert Dahne) and Murders in the Rue Morgue (originally recorded for the Iron Maiden tribute sampler Made in Tribute ).

Publications

The songs of the EP were already published before the release of Subterranean on April 1, 1995 on the Japanese press of the debut album Lunar Strain . In 1999 the two albums were released on CD together as Lunar Strain / Subterranean .

At the same time, Regain Records released an LP and a Picture Disc version of Subterranean . All of these re-releases include the bonus titles Dead Eternity and The Inborn Lifeless . The LP and Picture Disc versions were also supplemented by three titles from a promo cassette that the band recorded in 1993.

In 2010 the album was re-released for the second time in a box version limited to 3000 copies with poster and button. As a bonus, the album also contains two cover versions :
