Soundtrack to Your Escape is the seventh studio album by the Swedish melodic death metal band In Flames . It was released on March 30, 2004 via Nuclear Blast .

Emergence

In May 2003 the band began pre-producing the album. In Flames recorded eleven songs as a demo over a period of two weeks . These two weeks were called "The Tuborg Sessions" by the band. The band was referring to the beer brand of the same name . For the actual recordings, the band rented an old house near Fredrikshamn ( Denmark ), where all instruments and vocals except for the drums were recorded. The recordings took a total of about seven weeks. Drummer Daniel Svensson had previously recorded his parts in the Dug-Out Studio. Daniel Bergstrand was the producer like on the previous album Reroute to Remain . The album was mixed in the Galaxy Studios in Belgium by Daniel Bergstrand, Örjan Örnkloo and Anders Fridén. Björn Engelmann did the mastering in the cutting room .

The cover artwork was designed by dark tranquility guitarist Niklas Sundin and his company Cabin Fever Media. For the songs The Quiet Place , Touch of Red , Like You Better Dead and My Sweet Shadow were music videos rotated.

reception

The album received good reviews from the music press. The German Metal Hammer named the album "Album of the Month". Editor-in-chief Thorsten Zahn described Soundtrack to Your Escape as a “metal melody for millions, with which the pursuers cannot keep up” and awarded the highest mark with seven points. For Tobias Blum from Rock Hard , Soundtrack to Your Escape is a "fantastic album that requires some training, but is rewarded with a lot of substance". However, in an interview with Anders Fridén, the freelancer for the magazine Wolf-Rüdiger Mühlmann described the album as a “step backwards in the direction of 'typical' In Flames” and commented that he missed “the unbelievably strong melodies and hooks of 'System' overtones. . ”He concluded that Soundtrack to Your Escape sounded“ more like the not so strong predecessor of the fantastic album 'Reroute ...' ”.

Soundtrack to Your Escape entered the German album charts at number 28. In Austria, the album was number 25. In the band's home country, the album made it to number three. In Flames made it into the album charts for the first time in the USA and reached number 145.

The Quiet Place

The Quiet Place was released on March 4, 2004 as a single CD. At the Blekinge Institute of Technology ( Blekinge Tekniska Högskola ) a video for the song Like You Better Dead was also created as part of a project for future-oriented entertainment , which is recognized by the band. With The Quiet Place In Flames placed in the German single charts for the first time and reached number 91. In Sweden, the single even reached number two. In addition to three songs, the single contains the video clip for the title song, video recordings from the studio and a screen saver .
