The Jester Race is the second album by the Swedish metal band In Flames . The album was released on February 20, 1996 by Nuclear Blast . The Jester Race is the first In Flames album with lead singer Anders Fridén .
History of origin
In addition to Anders Fridén, Björn Gelotte is also a new drummer in the band. The album was recorded in Studio Fredman under the direction of Frederik Nordström . The mastering was done by Staffan Olofsson. Hammerfall guitarist Oscar Dronjak (vocals with Dead Eternity ), Frederik Nordström ( keyboard ), Kasper Dahlqvist (keyboard with Wayfaerer ) and Fredrik Johansson (guitar with December Flower ) performed as guest musicians . Joakim Göthberg , who plays with In-Flames members Jesper Strömblad and Glenn Ljungström at Dimension Zero , wrote the lyrics for Dead Eternity . The artwork was designed by Andreas Marschall .
concept
The Jester Race is a concept album about human weaknesses and arrogance. The people here are called "jesters" ( " court fools") who destroy the earth.
meaning
The album is now considered one of the most influential melodic death metal albums and is usually in the same breath as Slaughter of the Soul by At the Gates called. In Flames shot their first video clip for Artifacts of the Black Rain .

Black Ash Inheritance
On 15 August 1997 appeared Black Ash Inheritance - EP . It comprises four songs and is now a sought-after collector's item. In 2002 the album The Jester Race was re-released along with the four songs .
