The Qemists are an English drum and bass band from Brighton that formed in 2004.

history

The Qemists were originally a rock band in the 1990s. There they already spent a lot of time touring the UK and Europe , as well as recording songs in recording studios. Towards the end of the 1990s, the band began to become more and more interested in drum and bass, but around the same time local radio stations began playing the band's early songs. This was followed by many years of performing as a rock band during the day, while recording drum and bass at night or playing in clubs. Due to this fact, the current sound of The Qemists developed, a mixture of rock music and drum and bass.

Her first release under Ninja Tune was a remix of the Coldcut song Everything Is Under Control . They were supported by Zane Lowe, Coldcut and Pendulum .

Some of the band's singles have also been used in video games and films. Her first single, Stompbox, can be found in MotorStorm: Pacific Rift, Need for Speed: Undercover and Midnight Club: Los Angeles, Lost Weekend in Colin McRae: Dirt 2, Forza Motorsport 3 , MotorStorm: Arctic Edge and Need for Speed: Shift. Stompbox was also included in the soundtrack of the film Jumper .

In the summer of 2010, their album Spirit in the System was released , on which the song Take it Back could be heard, which was recorded in collaboration with Enter Shikari . This song was released as a single on April 4, 2011. The video for the single was released at the end of February and it was recorded in an old, abandoned department store in the north west of England. The video shows a post-apocalyptic area in which the two bands come to their senses again and which is explored and played on.

After the singles No More were released in November 2013 and Run You in January 2016 , the fourth album Warrior Sound was released in March 2016.

style

Because of the band's origins in the heavy metal scene and the rock elements in their songs, The Qemists is often assigned to mainstream drum and bass and compared to bands such as Pendulum .
