Firespawn is a Swedish death metal band from Stockholm , which was founded in 2012 under the name Fireborn .

history

In 2012 the singer Lars-Göran "LG" Petrov ( Entombed ), the bassist Alex Friberg aka Alex Impaler ( Necrophobic ) and the guitarist Victor Brandt (Entombed) decided to found a new band. The band, initially called Fireborn, was joined a few months later by Unleashed and Necrophobic guitarist Fredrik Folkare and Defleshed drummer Matte Modin, completing the line-up. A short time later, the band changed their name to Firespawn, as there was already an American band of the same name under the name Fireborn. After the release of a first single under the name Lucifer Has Spoken in August 2015, the debut album Shadow Realms followed in November . The album was recorded in less than a month. The band had previously given their first appearance at the Mörkaste Småland Festival at the end of September .

On centurymedia.com , the band states that the music on the album was written by Brandt, while the lyrics were by him and Friberg. The music was influenced by groups like Morbid Angel , Cannibal Corpse , Possessed , Behemoth and early Slayers . According to Patrick Schmidt, the band combines North American and Swedish Death Metal on their album . In addition, Doom Metal passages would occasionally be processed. In an interview with Schmidt, Victor Brandt named Morbid Angel, Cannibal Corpse and early Deicide as influences from Polish extreme metal bands like Behemoth and Trauma and groups like Suffocation . According to Schmidt, Petrov grows more deeply on the album compared to previous releases. Sebastian Schilling had reviewed the album one issue earlier and described the music as groove- oriented death metal in the American style. However, you can still hear the Scandinavian origins.
