Debauchery ( English for debauchery ) is a German death metal band from Stuttgart .

history

The band was formed in 2003 and released their debut album Kill Maim Burn that same year ; At the end of 2003 they were on tour with Napalm Death . In November 2004 followed the second studio album Rage of the Bloodbeast and a year later the third album Torture Pit . In this early phase they played at metal festivals such as the Bringer of the Death Fest III and went on a European tour with Six Feet Under and Dismember .

In 2007 they were signed by AFM Records , who released Back in Blood that same year . In April 2008, Continue to Kill was released and Debauchery played in 2008 on the Summer Breeze Open Air and a tour with Destruction as well as in April 2009 a tour with Ektomorf, Drone, Aggressive Fear and Dread the Moment, to the then latest album Rockers & War to apply.

At the beginning of May 2010 it was announced that Thomas Gurrath was advised to interrupt his legal clerkship at the Hegel-Gymnasium in Stuttgart because of his musical activities and the artwork. Due to additional media pressure, Gurrath resigned from his position at the end of 2010.

In 2011 the band released their seventh album Germany's Next Death Metal and Gurrath founded the hard rock band Big Ball and Blood God. Unlike Debauchery ( under contract with Massacre Records ), Gurrath publishes these two projects on his own label Blood God Records, a sub-label of AL! VE AG. In 2015 Gurrath founded the death metal band Balgeroth, whose debut album was included as a bonus CD in the debauchery work Fuck Humanity .

In contrast to Debauchery, Gurrath sings in German with Balgeroth . On July 15, 2016, the split CD, Debauchery vs. Blood God under the title Thunderbeast. This album also contains the EP Kill Mister , which was released in 2011 , a tribute album for Motörhead front man Lemmy Kilmister, who died in 2015 . In July 2018 the twelfth album “Enemy of Mankind” was released, which included the Balgeroth titles “In der Hölle speaks German” (album) and “Götter der Vernichtung” ( EP ).

style

The band is lyrically inspired by the tabletop strategy game Warhammer 40,000 and JRR Tolkien . The singing is almost exclusively in English, since, in their opinion, German-speaking metal only sounds good with Rammstein . They name AC / DC , Bolt Thrower , Obituary and Six Feet Under as musical role models .

Typical of their live shows are the outfits soaked in fake blood , in which they also shot their first video entitled "Kill Maim Burn". In 2007 the second video "Lords of Battle" followed with stripes by singer Thomas' girlfriend. In contrast to many other death metal bands, Debauchery show their own humor in their shows and songs. One line of the song "Death Metal Warmachine" from the album Torture Pit reads " Mainstream sucks" and the song "Blood for the Bloodgod" exists on the same album in a so-called "pussy version" with acoustic guitars. Debauchery played live in response to the accusation that they were a Six Feet Under blend, their song "War Is Coming".

Animal welfare

In 2011 Debauchery released the song Animal Holocaust. According to their own statements, the band criticizes the disrespect with which animals are treated in today's society. For the accompanying video, recordings from the animal rights organization PETA were used. The singer and songwriter Thomas Gurrath is a vegetarian himself. In 2014 the single Kings of Carnage appeared on the sampler A Tribute to Sea Shepherd . All proceeds from this album will go to the marine conservation organization Sea Shepherd .
