Band history

According to their own statements, Salem was the very first Israeli metal band ever when they were founded in 1985. Their first demo tape, Salem , was released in 1986 and the second with the title Destruction till Death the following year . A recording of a gig at the Roxan Club in Tel Aviv was released on cassette in 1990 under the title Millions Slaughtered / Live . This brought the band a contract with Morbid Records and in 1992 a letter bomb from the Norwegian musician Varg Vikernes . However , the band had a good relationship with Øystein Aarseth , the leader of the Norwegian black metal circle and guitarist of the band Mayhem . In December 1992 their first EP Creating Our Sins was released . In 1994 the single Dying Embers and the debut Kaddish (קדיש) followed. The included song The Fading was shown at Headbangers Ball and got Salem in the top 10 of MTV and Kerrang! . The album is also the place to Mordechai Gebirtig S'brennt based (ס'ברענט) Song Ha'ayara Bo'eret (העיירה בוערת) that the Przytyk - pogrom is about the 1936th The national controversy caused by Salem's version of the song even reached the Knesset , where it was debated whether it was appropriate for a metal band to play such songs.

After an offer from the BNE label in 1998, producer Colin Richardson flew to Israel to record her album A Moment of Silence . It was recorded at DB Studios in Israel and The Chapel in England. Immediately after the recordings, Amir Neubach got out to pursue a music career in New York City .

In early 2001, Nir Nakav joined Salem, who had just returned from Los Angeles after four years . In December 2001 the band signed with KMG / System Shock from Germany, where in 2002 the single Al Taster and their fourth, most aggressive album Collective Demise were released. In the same year Nir Gutraiman joined the band as a guitarist. In 2004 her DVD Live Demise was released on Masterdisk, in 2005 her album Strings Attached , which was the first extreme metal album to be recorded with a string quartet . A performance in Israel in front of 1000 fans took place with the string quartet and the guest singer Attila Csihar von Mayhem.

In June 2007, their album Necessary Evil was released on Season of Mist , which was more modern, but more technical and aggressive. In the same month the band also performed at the Hellfest Festival in France together with Machine Head , Slayer , Blind Guardian and Within Temptation, among others .

In 2010 her current album Playing God was released on Pulverized Records .

On July 29, 2019, the band announced on their Facebook page that their bassist Michael Goldstein has passed away.
