Wolfbrigade is a Swedish crust and hardcore punk band. It was founded in 1995 as Wolfpack and was renamed the Wolf Brigade in 1999.

history

The band was founded in 1995 under the name Wolfpack; Erik, Jocke and Frank had previously played in the death metal band Obscure Infinity and several punk bands. After the split single with Skitsystem , a German tour followed, as a result of which two band members developed conflicts about the singer. In 1999 the band changed their name to Wolfbrigade in order to avoid confusion with a right-wing extremist organization of the same name . Micke also took over the vocals at that time in Jonsson's place. In 2002 drummer Frank left the band for family reasons. Dadde took his place, who supported the band with authoritarianism on a subsequent European tour . In 2004 a US tour followed. Singer Johan was diagnosed with a tumor in his throat, which was followed by lengthy therapy. Poffen, the singer of Totalitarian , came to Wolfbrigade temporarily . The band planned to break up after their concerts in the US because of the singer's illness. Four members then played at Today's Overdose.

In 2007 the band announced their reunion, with Today's Overdose bassist Johan replacing Marcus on bass, and announced a new album to be recorded at Tomas Skogsberg's Sunlight Studio . The first concert after reunification took place in Stockholm in February 2007. The announced album was released in 2007 under the title Prey to the World . An announced split 7 ”with Benediction remained unpublished. The album Comalive was originally supposed to appear on the American record company Profane Existence , but this stopped its activities in 2008. As a result, the band had to cancel their US tour, the financing of which was originally supposed to be supported by Profane Existence. The album was instead released through Farewell Records and La Familia Releases. In 2012 the album Damned was released via Southern Lord and La Familia releases.

style

The music of Wolfbrigade contains many metal influences, accordingly, according to the band members of Marduk , Entombed and Centinex are among their fans (there are several photos of the former Marduk drummer Fredrik Andersson with Wolfpack T-shirt). The record company Maniac Attack Records, which released the European version of the re-release of In Darkness You Feel No Regrets , describes the style of the album as "[a] pissed off, angry and dark [...]. The classic, brutal WOLFBRIGADE sound is mixed with catchy melodies that quickly eat their way into the ear canal and won't leave it anytime soon. It all comes in a suitably mangy sound […]. ”The band cites Swedish, US American and British hardcore as well as Swedish death metal as influences. Drummer Dadde Stark cited Swedish hardcore like Anti Cimex and more melodic Swedish punk like Asta Kask , Strebers and Puke as the band's influences , as well as elements of US hardcore and crossovers from bands like DRI , Circle Jerks , Poison Idea and Death Metal like Entombed, Napalm Death , early At the Gates and "a healthy dose of Motörhead ", however, said that he felt that most metal bands were stupid; he likes her music, but not her attitude.

According to Dadde, the lyrics are “an outlet for a lot of emotions” such as frustration in personal affairs or about the world and politics; he himself does not want to write texts that are too obvious, but “if there are topics in this world that excite me, it is poverty, war, politics and the lack of equality. What we do for money with our earth, the people and animals that live here is disgusting. ” Damned also covers topics such as alienation, the struggle for a better life, the future and the inner demons of the musicians.
