Centinex is a Swedish death metal band from Avesta . The band name is a fantasy word with no particular background.

history

Centinex was founded in 1990. The first recordings followed in March 1991. The two singers Mattias Lamppu and Lasse Eriksson, Andreas Evaldsson (guitar), Martin Schulman (bass) and Per Guselius (drums) went to the Sunlight Studio and played the demo End of Life . Joakim Gustafsson then joined as the new drummer.

In 1992 the debut album Subconscious Lobotomy was released , which was released on Underground Records in an edition of 1,000 and produced by Tomas Skogsberg and Fred Estby ( Dismember ). In 1993 Mattias Lamppu left the group and Centinex continued with just one singer.

With a three-track promo, the group was able to secure a contract with Wild Rags Records , which released the promo as an EP under the title Under the Blackened Sky . In 1994 the EP Transcend the Dark Chaos was released with the second guitarist Kenneth Wiklund. Subsequently, Joakim Gustafsson left the band. Centinex then continued with a drum machine. A split 7 '' was released with Inverted , followed by the second album Malleus Maleficarum on Wild Rags, which mainly consisted of the recordings of the EPs.

1997 saw the release of the third album Reflections , followed by Reborn Through Flames in 1998 on Repulse Records . Then there were serious line-up changes. As the only founding member, bassist Martin Schulman remained in the group. Johan Jansson joined as the new singer, the new guitarist was Jonas Kjellgren , the drums were still replaced by a drum computer. The two new members came from the Dellamorte group. Despite this serious reshuffle, the EP Bloodhunt was released in 1999 . Then a drummer got in with Kennet Englund (also from Dellamorte).

In 2000 Hellbrigade was released , the last album for Repulse Records. The group then signed with Candlelight Records , which released Diabolical Desolation in 2002. Decadence: Prophecies of Cosmic Chaos followed in 2004 . After the release, Ronnie Bergerståhl joined the group as the new drummer. In 2005 the current album World Declension was released , a concept album about the apocalypse.

After Centinex again had to struggle with casting problems, the band broke up in 2006. Schulman, Jansson and Bergerståhl then founded the death metal band Demonical ; In 2014, however, Schulman and Englund decided to continue Centinex again. Singer Alexander Högbom and guitarist Sverker Widgren joined the band.

style

Initially, the group was oriented towards hardcore punk and Florida death metal . Not least because of the entry of the members of Dellamorte , the style of the group changed to the Swedish Death Metal style. The band later pursued a style that sought to unite both the aggressiveness of death and black metal , as well as harmonic melodies. The band At the Gates, popular in the metal scene, served as a model .
