Shane Embury (born November 27, 1967 in Broseley , Shropshire ) is an English musician. He became known as the longtime bass player of the grindcore band Napalm Death .

Life

Embury grew up in Broseley, a small village in Shropshire. At the age of 16 he left school and worked as a shift worker in a factory. Around this time he taught himself to play the drums , and later the electric bass was added as a further instrument . At the beginning of 1984 he founded the thrash metal band Warhammer with some friends from his town , which only managed two demos. In early 1986, the then unemployed Embury was one of the most active tape traders in England, sending 30 to 40 cassettes a week. In the same year he founded the band Unseen Terror with Mitch Dickinson, also from Broseley . A first offer from Mick Harris to become a member of Napalm Death, Embury initially turned down in early 1987 and became the drummer of Azagthoth , with whom he recorded a demo. He left Warhammer to focus on Unseen Terror. In the fall of 1987 he joined Napalm Death as a bass player and is still there today.

In addition to his work at Napalm Death, Embury has been involved in a variety of projects. Since 1989 he has been guitarist for Brujeria under the pseudonym Hongo and played bass on the two albums of Meathook Seed , the project of napalm death guitarist Mitch Harris . Together with Jesse Pintado , Nick Barker and Peter Tägtgren he founded the band Lock Up in 1998 , with whom he released three studio albums. Since 2004 he has played in the black metal project Insidious Disease and in the hardcore punk band Venomous Concept .

Shane Embury has lived in Birmingham since 1989 .
