Meathook Seed was a British metal band considered a side project of Mitch Harris of Napalm Death .

history

Meathook Seed was founded in 1992 as a side project by Mitch Harris (Napalm Death). The name of the project comes from the 1989 book Raism by James Havoc, where it is the title of the first chapter. The debut album "Embedded" was released in 1993 on Earache Records , guest musicians were Donald Tardy and Trevor Peres from the American death metal band Obituary. Shane Embury , bassist for Napalm Death, contributed some samples and bass passages. Around 1994 the two Obituary members left the project which, according to Donald Tardy, was a really good experience for the musicians.

While the first album can still be assigned to industrial metal, Harris wanted more melodic aspects in his music due to his personal musical development. Initially, however, he was not able to write songs for the planned next album for a few years due to his involvement with Napalm Death and his family. That is why he did not begin to compose new pieces until 1997. However, he saw his compositional skills more in the rhythmic area, which is why he looked for a musician who could bring more melodic elements into the music. Via Colin Richardson, who worked as a music producer for Napalm Death, the contact to Christophe Lamouret, singer of the relatively unknown French band Out , came about and the work on the second album "BIBLE (Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth)" could begin. Interrupted by a tour with Napalm Death, the mastering was delayed and the second album was released with a little delay in October 1999 on Dreamcatcher Records .

Meathook Seed only played two live shows during its existence. While Harris was undecided about the continuation of the project in 2000, he confirmed in an interview in 2007 that there will be no further releases from Meathook Seed. In 2013 Harris launched the Menace project , for whose debut album Impact Velocity he used songs that he had originally written for Meathook Seed, but which did not fit into the musical concept of the project.
