Odroerir is a pagan metal band from the Thuringian area of Schmalkalden , Meiningen and Erfurt .

Band history

The band was formed in autumn 1998 as a project by Fix von Menhir . He was initially supported by Fenrir, who helped him with the texts. The name comes from the Norse mythology where the Odroerir Skaldenmet referred. The potion is said to help its user achieve great poetry. The drops that Odin spilled on Midgard , on the other hand, would only create a lack of poetry.

In November 1998 a demo was recorded together with some session musicians and sent to Ars Metalli . In 1999, Fix reorganized the band and the permanent line-up now included Stickel, who already played guitar in the black metal band Aske, Philipp on drums, Ralph on bass and singer Ivonne. An official demo called Iring was created in the same year and first appearances were tackled.

The debut album Let’s tell you from the old days… was made in 2001, but the release was delayed until 2002. Shortly afterwards, Ars Metalli was separated. A 7 " EP with two new pieces was released in 2003 via the Det germanske Folket label . Bassist Ralph left the band during the recording due to internal differences. Manuel from XIV Dark Centuries took over the vacant position of bassist. In 2004, Veit joined a violinist to the band.

On September 5, 2005, the second album Götterlieder I was released by unit productions . Ivonne left the band in the same year and was replaced by Natalie.

The album Götterlieder II was released on May 28, 2010 via Einheit Produktionen. The release party took place on June 12th together with Heidevolk , Helfahrt and Waldgeflüster in KW70 in Bad Salzungen . A tour with Skyforger , XIV Dark Centuries and Gernotshagen should follow at the end of the year, but this was suspended. In 2011 the band played several festivals, including the Cernunnos Pagan Festival in Paris , the Ragnarök Festival in Lichtenfels and the Black Troll Festival. In 2011, multi-instrumentalist Karlson joined the band as the second guitarist and singer. In autumn 2011 the band played a European tour with Suidakra , XIV Dark Centuries, Waylander , Cruadalach and Chain of Dogs under the motto "Black Trolls over Europe Tour III".

Music genre

Odroerir play Pagan Metal , which includes acoustic passages and is carried by the male-female alternating vocals. In terms of content, the group deals primarily with Thuringian legends on the first sound carrier , while the concept on the second is based on the Edda . The project distances itself from political positions. The band itself describes their style as "epic folk metal" and attaches importance to "never using keyboards or synthesizers , but rather playing everything with natural instruments or singing".
