1994–1997: Foundation and first recordings

The band was founded in 1994 under the name Gloryfication by drummer Stefan Möller and guitarist and singer Arkadius Antonik. After the band had released two demo recordings and recorded Marcel Schoenen, they renamed themselves Suidakra ( Ananym from "Arkadius"). At that time, Suidakra described their style as a mixture of black metal and traditional heavy metal with folk elements.

1997-1999: Lupine Essence and Auld Lang Syne

Suidakra's debut album , Lupine Essence , was self-produced and was released in 1997. 2,000 copies of the album were sold and a contract with the Last Episode label was signed.

In 1998 the second studio album Auld Lang Syne was recorded and released. The lyrical concept revolves around ideas from Celtic mythology . Suidakra had a number of appearances, including at Wacken Open Air and in support of Haggard and Tristania on their tour.

1999-2001: Lays from Afar and The Arcanum

For the album Lays from Afar , which was released in 1999, the producer Andy Classen was acquired. This album received some new elements and a coherent story from mythology and its own fiction.

The band were happy with the recordings of Lays from Afar so they chose Stage One Studio again and Andy Classen as producer to record The Arcanum in 2000 . The songs were primarily about Celtic mythology and individual imagination. After The Arcanum was released , Marcel Schoenen (guitar) announced that he wanted to leave the band. However, he decided to continue helping Arkadius with the songwriting.

2001–2004: Emprise to Avalon and Signs for the Fallen

In the middle of 2001 Stefan Möller left the band; shortly afterwards he was replaced by Lars Wehner. In 2001 the band also moved to Century Media . By November 2001, the band's new songs were revised, and in December 2001 they were recorded for the third time in Stage One Studio. On Emprise to Avalon , the band's second concept album , the lyrics deal with the legend of King Arthur . Shortly after the recordings, Marcus Riewaldt became the bass player for Suidakra. In the summer of 2002 Suidakra played for the second time at the Summer Breeze and the Wacken Open Air.

For the following material, the entire band was involved in the composition for the first time. In April 2003, Suidakra met for the fourth time at Stage One Studio to record Signs for the Fallen . Ahead of its July 28 release , fans had the chance to hear songs from the new album when the band supported Soilwork and Children of Bodom in May . In November 2003 the band went on a Darkness-in-Disguise tour through Germany, Austria and Hungary with Green Carnation and Mörk Gryning .

2004–2006: Command to Charge and Caledonia

In 2004 the band gave numerous concerts and returned to festivals in the summer. After half of the material for the new album had been written, the band split from Century Media due to differences over the future of Suidakra. The album was then recorded at their own expense. She also changed the studio; Command to Charge was recorded in the Gernhart Records studio with producer Martin Buchwalter. In addition, Matthias Kupka came to the band, who took over the clear vocals and the second guitar. The album was recorded in November 2004 and finally released in May 2005 via Armageddon Music . The band then took part in the Wacken Road Show with Holy Moses , Illdisposed and Regicide and played at festivals such as the Atarfe Vega Rock Festival, Summer Breeze, Metalcamp , Metalmania and Bloodstock Open Air . The entire album was played during performances in France , Belgium , Austria and the Czech Republic .

In September 2005 Marcel Schoenen returned to Suidakra. The eighth studio album Caledonia ( lat . 'Scotland') was released in 2006. The album is described by the band as a "sonic travel guide through the grim Scottish Highlands " and deals with the mystical side of the tribe of the Picts , their struggle against the Roman Empire and the Coexistence of these worlds. The album was designed by the Belgian artist Kris Verwimp. The band performed again at the Wacken Open Air and in November 2006 gave an acoustic concert at the Kielowatt Festival, which was recorded by Sebastian Radtke , who was also responsible for Suidakra's first music video, The IXth Legion . In early 2007 the band went on a tour of Russia and Ukraine, followed by a European tour with Ensiferum and individual concerts in Europe including their first appearance in Ireland . Performances at festivals followed in the summer, with the performance at Wacken Open Air being filmed. Guitarist Schoenen finally got out and was replaced by Tim Siebrecht.

2008–2010: Crógacht

In February 2009, Suidakra's ninth studio album, Crógacht ( ir. 'Courage' or 'bravery') was released, which was recorded again with Buchwalter and locates the band between melodic death metal and Irish folk and with instruments such as bagpipe , banjo and tin whistle as well as one Choir experiments; the clear singing played a minor role and came from Arkadius Antonik. Stylistically, the album was more aggressive than its predecessor. In addition to the design, Verwimp also contributed the lyrics. The concept album is inspired by a legend in Irish mythology known as Aided Óenfhir Aoífe or The Death of Aoife's only son . It tells the story of the hero Cúchulainn and his journey to the Isle of Skye , where he would like to learn the art of fighting from the warrior Scáthach .

In March 2009 the band gave a US and Canada tour. With Sebastian Jensen she found a solid guitarist again. A short tour of China followed in June 2009. In autumn 2009 the two guitarists Antonik and Jensen signed an endorsement agreement with the American guitar manufacturer Gibson .

In spring, summer and autumn 2010 numerous concerts, tours and festival appearances took place in Spain , Portugal , North America , France , Switzerland and Turkey . This also included some joint appearances with Orphaned Land and an appearance at the Ragnarök Festival . In July 2010 the band announced the new album Book of Dowth .

2010–2013: Book of Dowth and Eternal Defiance

The recordings for the tenth studio album Book of Dowth began on November 30, 2010 in the Gernhart Studio in Siegburg . Guitarist Sebastian Jensen left Suidakra because he couldn't find enough time for the band due to his professional situation. For 2011 the band announced that they only want to continue as a trio, with Marius “Jussi” Pesch supporting them as a live guitarist. After only about three weeks in the studio, the recordings for Book of Dowth were already completed by Christmas 2010 .

On January 25, 2011 Suidakra announced the change to the new record label AFM Records . Was published Book of Dowth on March 25, 2011. more concerts and festival appearances are planned for the summer.

In 2012 Marcus Riewald left the band to set other priorities. A replacement has been found in Tim Siebrecht.
