Ringworm ( Engl ., Dermatophytosis ') is an American band from Cleveland , founded in 1990, broke up again in 1993, was in 1995 for some performances together again and again occurs regularly since 1998.

history

The band was founded in 1990 by singer James “The Human Furnace” Bulloch and Terror guitarist Frank Novinec. The following year the group released their first self-titled demo. In 1993 the debut album The Promise followed through Incision Records, after which the group disbanded shortly thereafter.

In 1995 the band got back together for a short time and played some gigs in Europe in the fall . In 1998 the group finally reunited and released the demo Madness of War the following year . In November 2001, the next album, Birth Is Pain, followed on Victory Records . The group consisted of singer Bulloch, guitarists Frank “3 Gun” Novinec and Matt Sorg, bassist Aaron Ramirez and drummer Chros Dora. In early 2003, Ben Hollowell joined the band and replaced Ramirez. In April 2003 followed a tour through the east coast of the USA, together with Terror and Ramallah , which followed in May and June performances with All Out War . In July and August the group played concerts with Punishment and Shattered Realm . In November 2004 the band continued their live activities and performed together with Death Before Dishonor . In 2005 the next album Justice Replaced by Revenge followed via Victory Records . In 2007 and 2011, the next two albums, The Venomous Grand Design and Scars , were released via Victory Records .

style

Éliphas Lévis Baphomet - depiction from his work Dogme et Rituel de la Haute Magie can be seen on the cover of the first Ringworm album.

The band plays a mix of metal and hardcore punk. Ringworms influences are said to include Motörhead , Celtic Frost , Discharge and Thin Lizzy . Lex from Metalglory - Webzine described The Promise as “a mixture of integrity and fat, metallic guitar sound [...]. Diabolical metal core that is dark and whose simple structures just go to the front - without any compromises. [...] Typical old-school hard core without great variety or variety. But that's how hardcore was in the early 90s. ”Integrity and ringworm played an important role in establishing metallic hardcore at the time. It's not a mix in the sense of modern metalcore . The metallic elements mostly serve to accentuate the hardcore style and are not the foundation of the pieces, and the metal influences are reminiscent of bands like Venom , Nuclear Assault and Slayer in contrast to modern metalcore representatives . The music on Justice Replaced by Revenge reminds Schneider of Metalglory of recent works by The Exploited and classical works by Exodus ; he described the release as "a contemporary version" of the Exodus debut album Bonded by Blood . He also compared the successor The Venomous Grand Design with these two bands in the phases mentioned, also with Terror and Rise and Fall , "even if the basic orientation has shifted a little more towards Metal"

On the albums cover of the debut album The Promise is Eliphas Lévis Baphomet see graph. The lyrics deal with subjects like blasphemy (in God Eat God ) or death (in No One Dies Alone and Death Is Not an Option ). The band expressed the "need for mass extermination of people".
