All Out War is an American metalcore band from Newburgh , New York that was formed in 1991.

history

The band was formed in 1991 by singer Mike Score and former Merauder guitarist Chris Bozeth. After demos and the EP Destined to Burn on Hardway Records , the band initially disintegrated in the mid-1990s. In 1997 the line-up was reorganized around Score and consisted of guitarists Jim Antonelli and Taras Apuzzo, bassist Eric Carrillo and drummer Jesse Sutherland. After the debut album Truth in the Age of Lies was released on the German label Gain Ground in the same year, she went on a European tour and played with Liar and Congress . The group also performed with Sick of It All , Biohazard , Type O Negative , Deicide , Agnostic Front , Napalm Death and Earth Crisis . As early as October 1998, For Those Who Were Crucified, a second album followed via Victory Records , which includes cover versions of the Cro-Mags song By Myself and the Corrosion-of-Conformity song Mad World . Guitarist Brad Mader and drummer Matt Baryne can be heard as new members on the album. On the following US tours the band played together with Buried Alive , Reach the Sky and Shadows Fall . They also played together with Blood for Blood and Hatebreed . After an appearance at the New England Metal and Hardcore Festival in 2001, it came to another breakup.

Due to a charity concert at the CBGB , the group returned in 2003 with the album Condemned to Suffer . In addition to Score, Apuzzo and Sutherland, she consists of the guitarist Jose Segarra and the bassist Andy Pietroluongo. In this line-up, performances with Misery Signals and a two-week tour of Europe were held before it was broken up again in May 2004. The remaining members then founded Nerve Gas Tragedy. In June 2004, Score announced that he was not planning to start a new business as he would devote himself to his profession as a history teacher in high school . Nevertheless, the band came together again in 2006 and consisted of Score, Antonelli, Carrillo, guitarist Jim Bremer and drummer Lou Iuzzini. In April, the album Assassins in the House of God was released on Victory Records . The phonogram was produced by Erin Farley . Lou Medina plays the drums on it. As a guest singer, Rich O'Brien of Darkside NYC is involved in the song Politics of Apathy . Chris Bozeth also worked on the album. In 2008 the separation from Victory Records was first announced. Nevertheless, the label released the album Into the Killing Fields in 2010 , where the line-up consists of the same members as its predecessor. In August 2015 the band could be seen at the Brutal Assault and the Ieperfest, among others.

style

laut.de wrote about All Out War that the band, like other groups from the genre (Cro-Mags, Merauder),mixes New York Hardcore with Metal . The group offers a mixture of hardcore punk and thrash metal . According to Allmusic's Mike DaRonco, the band crosses punk with metal and has been influenced by Slayer , Agnostic Front, Cro-Mags and Sick of It All. Christian Graf notedinfluences from Slayer, Cro-Mags and Carcass in his Nu Metal and Crossover Lexicon . The band makes use of the genres punk, hardcore punk and death metal . Characteristic for the music are "massive guitars" and double bass . The Victory Records website lists Cro-Mags, Kreator , Sodom and Carnivore as influences. According to Score, All Out War was originally foundedto mixthe styles of Kreator, Sodom and Destruction .

HC Roth from the Ox-Fanzine found that For Those Who Were Crucified has only marginally to do with Hardcore Punk. Rather, the music sounds like that of Bolt Thrower or Benediction , “but they look like Luschen because of the energy, aggression and power levels of New Yorkers”. The songs are "primitive, but at the same time completely brutally dull". Dominik Winter from the same magazine judged Condemned to Suffer that there is a mixture of old and new school hardcore as well as metal. The band use disharmonious guitars and tempo changes . Lyrically, the band treats doomsday theories again. In a later issue, Tobias Ernst reviewed Into the Killing Fields . The songs are aggressive and it is difficult to differentiate between them, since the proportion of Hardcore Punk and Thrash Metal is always the same. In another issue, Ernst wrote about the republication of Truth in the Age of Lies that you can hear the New York influence even more clearly than with the later publications. The group was influenced by Cro-Mags and Carnivores. He described the album as a genre classic.

Anzo Sadoni from Metal Hammer assigned the music on Assassins in the House of God to Metalcore, in which the group processed influences from Thrash and Death Metal as well as Hardcore Punk. The music is free of " Kajal , Emo -Geheule and other nonsense." Three years later, in his review Into the Killing Fields , Sadoni described the band as "a pioneer in metal meets hardcore". Especially you combine hardcore punk with thrash metal. The song From Manipulation to Martyr has influences from Bolt Thrower. The high screams in the songs are too one-dimensional in the long run. In addition, tonal parallels to Hatebreed can be heard on the album.
