Bane was an American hardcore band from Worcester , Massachusetts that was founded in 1994 under the name Gateway .

history

The band was founded in 1994 under the name Gateway by Converge guitarist Aaron Dalbec, although the group was actually only intended as a side project to his actual band Converge. In 1995 singer Aaron Bedard joined the cast and a first demo was recorded, which contained five songs. Pete Chilton joined the band as bass player, while Zach Jordan joined the band as second guitarist. The drummer was Damnon Bellorado, also a member of Converge. In May 1996 an EP followed with Forked Tongue , which was followed by Free to Think, Free to Be in 1997 . Both EPs were released through Life Records . Then drummer Bellorado left the band to concentrate fully on Converge. Bellorado was briefly replaced by ten-yard fight drummer Ben Chused before he was replaced by 19-year-old Nick Branigan ( Close Call ) in mid-1998 . A tour followed, as well as the album Holding This Moment , which was actually a compilation of the EPs previously released. In addition, the band held a US tour together with Saves the Day . The album It All Comes Down to This was recorded in June 1999 at Austin Enterprises in Clinton , Massachusetts, recording studio of Today-Is-the-Day singer Steve Austin. The album was released through Equal Vision Records . In 2000 followed a tour through North America together with Death by Stereo and Adamantium , as well as performances in Europe . In early September 2000 the band went back to the studio, with Converge member Kurt Ballou working as a producer to record two songs for a split release together with Adamantium, which was released via Indecision Records . The second album, Give Blood , was released in 2001 and was recorded in Beltsville , Maryland and produced by Brian McTernan . The release was followed by a tour of the USA with Agnostic Front . In 2003, drummer Branigan left the band and was replaced by Bob Mahoney. This was followed by another tour of the USA and a two-week tour of Japan in April 2004. With producer McTernan, the band then went to Salad Days Studios to record the album The Note , which was released in 2005 via Equal Vision Records. In March 2005, the band went on a US tour with Comeback Kid and With Honor . Another European tour with Comeback Kid followed towards the end of the year. In 2010, Holding This Moment was a compilation of various past recordings. The last studio album was released in 2014 by Equal Vision Records. In 2016 the band broke up.

Guitarist Dalbec continues to play with Only Crime , of which he has been a member since 2004 parallel to his career with Bane. Singer Bedard has been with the Boston hardcore band Antagonize since 2018 .

style

The band plays classic hardcore punk using bands like Justice League , Minor Threat , Descendents and Dag Nasty as role models. Important albums for her are I Against I by Bad Brains , The Age of Quarrel by Cro-Mags and Out of Step by Minor Threat.
