Today Is the Day is an experimental hardcore - / Metal band from Nashville ( Tennessee ) that today's hardcore and metalcore influenced scene, such as the band The Ocean and Zao .

history

Foundation and amphetamine-reptile phase until 1996

Today Is the Day was founded in 1992 by guitarist and singer Steve Austin and drummer Brad Elrod. A bass player was found shortly afterwards in Mike Herrell, and in the same year appeared debut - EP How to Win Friends and Influence People . The band was then signed by Amphetamine Reptile Records , where the band's debut album - Supernova - was completed in 1993 . The follow-up record Willpower was the last album with the original bassist Mike Herrell, who left the band after the release and was replaced by keyboardist Scott Wexton. With the new line-up, the next, self-titled album was recorded, the release of which meant the farewell to AmRep as well as to the original drummer Brad Elrod (replaced by Mike Hyde) and keyboardist Scott Wexton (replaced by Christopher Reeser on electric bass ) (1996). The next album, Temple of the Morning Star , came out through the then rapidly growing Relapse Records in 1997.

Relapse Records phase 1997 to 2006

After the release of the album Temple of the Morning Star , there was an almost complete line-up change, with Brann Dailor ( drums ) and Bill Kelliher (bass) being included in the band. With this line-up In the Eyes of God was recorded and released in 1999 via Relapse . After that, they toured extensively (including with the label colleagues from Neurosis ) and worked on new material.

In 2002 the double album Sadness Will Prevail was released with a total length of over two hours. There was another line-up change. The new bassist was Chris Debari and Marshall Kilpatrick took the place on drums. The album is considered difficult to digest, because it consists to a large extent of the heavily distorted guitar riffs, white noise and various audio samples , taken from different films.

In 2004, Kiss the Pig was released , considered by many to be the band's fastest and most hateful work - the last release on Relapse Records. In 2006 the contract with the label was terminated and the band switched to the SuperNova Records label, newly founded by Steve Austin .

SuperNova Records phase 2006 to 2010

Today Is the Day's last album to date - Axis of Eden - was released through the label . The album was recorded by Derek Roddy ( Hate Eternal ), who replaced Mike Rosswog ( Circle of Dead Children ) on drums and left shortly after the promo tour (2008). Shortly thereafter, long-time bassist Chris Debari left and was replaced by John Judkins and the Frenchman Julien Granger ( Four Question Marks ) was introduced as the new drummer .

Blackmarket Activities 2010 to date

On July 22, 2010 it was announced that the band around Steve Austin had signed a contract with Blackmarket Activities, the indie label from Massachusetts. The label announced this on its homepage. The release of the new album entitled "Pain Is a Warning" is planned for August 16, 2011. The record will be recorded with a completely renewed line-up. New are: Curran Reynolds on drums and Ryan Jones on bass (both also play in Wetnurse ).
