Elmar Bartsch

Elmar Bartsch (born April 6, 1929 in Frankenstein in Silesia ; † November 6, 2010 in Mülheim an der Ruhr ) was a German speech scholar , Germanist and Catholic theologian . He was a professor at the University of Education in Neuss and the University of Duisburg .

Life

After graduating from high school in Dorsten , Bartsch studied philosophy and Catholic theology at the Philosophical-Theological University of Koenigstein and the Universities of Munich and Münster . He was in the church service in the GDR from 1954 to 1958, in 1956 he passed the pastor's examination at the Archbishop's Ordinariate in Görlitz . After his return to the Federal Republic of Germany, he was a research assistant at the Department of Liturgical Studies and Pastoral Theology at the University of Munich from 1958 to 1966 . He received his doctorate in Catholic theology in 1963, his dissertation dealt with the "evocations of the Roman liturgy". From 1966 he built up the homiletic department (sermon teaching) at the Institute for Catechetics and Homiletics in Munich and expanded it to include theological adult education. The institute was set up by the German Bishops' Conference for postgraduates from all over the world. Relevant colleagues were the oratorians in Munich and colleagues from the homiletic working group in Germany. From 1967 to 1969 Bartsch was director of the institute. From 1970 to 1971 he worked as a lecturer at Kösel-Verlag in Munich .

In parallel to his work as a theologian, Bartsch studied German and speech studies in Munich from 1964 to 1968 . In 1971 he passed the exam to become a speech teacher at the Saarbrücken testing center of the German Society for Speech and Speech Education (DGSS). He became a lecturer in speech training at the Rhineland University of Education in Neuss . From 1974 he taught as a scientific adviser, later as a professor at the seminar for didactics of German language and literature at the Pedagogical University in Neuss with a focus on "oral communication". In 1980 Bartsch was appointed professor for German linguistics and language didactics at the University of Duisburg , and in 1992 he switched to the chair for speech science and phonology of German at the same university.

In addition to his university activities, he offered training courses in speech communication, among others at the Foreign Office in Bonn (20 years), for the Süddeutsche Zeitung (10 years), for the Hernstein Institute for Management and Leadership and the Vienna Chamber of Commerce (since 1975). From 1975 he headed the test center of the German Society for Speech Science and Speech Education (DGSS) in Neuss, from 1980 the test center Duisburg and, after the death of Rudolf Rösener in 1993, the test center in Münster. From 1985 to 1989 Bartsch was 1st Chairman of the DGSS. He was also a member of the German Society for Linguistics (DGfS) and the Society for Applied Linguistics (GAL). Bartsch was also a member of the German Business Ethics Network . He was teaching business ethics at the University of Applied Sciences for Technology and Economics in Berlin , as well as with the city administrations in Düsseldorf and Cologne.

Bartsch died on November 6, 2010 in Mülheim an der Ruhr.
