The German Society for Speech Science and Speech Education e. V. (DGSS) is established in 1930 scientific and professional association of speakers pullers and speech scientists in Germany . His office is in Münster .

The aim of the company is to promote the teaching and maintenance of oral communication. Association examination and graduation

The examination in speech science and speech training in front of representatives of the association is offered as an additional qualification at various universities and ends with the title "Speech Educator (DGSS)". Graduated specialist representatives who hold a permanent position at a university and have the appropriate resources there offer students a range of events so that they can fulfill the study and module plan of the DGSS. history

The forerunner was founded in 1930 under the name of the German Committee for Speech Studies and Speech Education (DAfSuS) by Erich Drach and others . It represented an association of all speech training teachers at universities.

In 1964 the name of the association was changed to the German Society for Speech and Speech Education . On the initiative of Hellmut Geißner , the DGSS Scientific Advisory Board was founded in 1965.

In 1978 it was last renamed the German Society for Speech Science and Speech Education .

Members of the DGSS today are teachers at colleges and universities as well as speech scientists and speech educators who work in the fields of oral communication.

The association is divided into a science and a professional committee. He is responsible for the training of speech educators with corresponding examination regulations (science commission) and supports the practically active speech educators in all their matters (professional committee).

The DGSS has the structure of regional associations and has a student association for students of speech training and speaking studies.

Science Commission

The Science Commission takes care of the scientific research, the technical discourse and the study of speech science and speech training.

The tasks of the Science Commission are: (a) exchange of research results, work on the basics of linguistic science and methods of speech training, (b) connection to related subject areas, (c) annual report for every general meeting (at least every two years), (d) matters of Study and examination for speech trainers, (e) preparation of events, (f) scientific publications of the society. The Science Commission appoints an editorial committee of three people for three years.

Professional committee

The professional committee looks after the DGSS certificates and takes care of all members who are not active in science.

The tasks of the professional committee are: (a) Development of professional policy programs and concepts at federal level, (b) Coordination of the work of the regional associations, (c) Improvement of PR concepts, (d) Support in cooperation with other professional associations, (e) Participation on examination regulations and curriculum, (f) advising the board on professional policy issues, (g) reporting to each general meeting (at least every two years).

Student association

Tasks and goals of the student union: (a) Exchange of experience and information between the students of speech science / speech training, between the student union and the heads of testing centers and other training and study programs, between the students and Student association and the other organs of the DGSS, (b) improvement of the study opportunities at the individual test centers.
