Christa Heilmann

Christa M. Heilmann (born November 6, 1946 in Leipzig ) is a German speech scholar . Until 2012 she was a university professor and head of the Speech Science department at the Philipps University of Marburg .

Life

Christa Heilmann grew up in Leipzig. After graduating from high school in 1965, she studied speech science and German at the Institute for Speech Science and Phonetics of the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg , where she received her doctorate in 1972 on the subject of rhetorical communication. She then worked at the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń . At the then Karl Marx University in Leipzig , she was a university teacher for foreign students of German studies for the subjects of rhetoric and phonetics from 1975–1982 , then an aspirant at the University of Halle-Wittenberg. Because of a departure request she had from 1984 to 1987 in the GDR , a professional ban . During this time she worked in church training institutions.

After moving to the Federal Republic of Germany in November 1987, Heilmann worked at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster and at the Georg-August University in Göttingen . Since the winter semester 1990 she has been head of the Speech Studies department at the Institute for German Linguistics at the Philipps University of Marburg. In April 2001 she completed her habilitation at the University of Jena with the thesis "New approaches to linguistic conversation research". She was appointed adjunct professor for speech science in 2005. In 2012 she retired.

Heilmann has been chairwoman of the Scientific Advisory Board of the German Society for Speech Science and Speech Education (DGSS) since 2001 . From 2009 to 2011 she was 1st Chairman of the DGSS. She is also a founding member of the Soroptimist Club Marburg and was its president from 2009 to 2011.

Heilmann is married and has three children.
