The Speech Science is an academic discipline that deals with the Talk busy so the study of spoken language is used.

The classic areas of work in speech science are:

Breathing , vocalization, articulation , intonation , speech expression
Speech and conversation rhetoric , argumentation , media rhetoric and new media
Reading teaching, interpreting text speaking , art of speaking , media speaking
  • Media rhetoric and media speech :
Media language, speaking and moderating on radio and television, intelligibility of radio news, radio play and audio book analysis, radio play and audio book production
  • Therapeutic communication :
Therapy of voice, speech, speech and swallowing disorders (→ speech therapy )

research

Current research projects investigate German lessons for foreigners, the prophylaxis (prevention) of voice damage in speaking professions, aspects of intercultural communication and the methodology of teaching oral communication.

Speech science is interdisciplinary and works primarily with German studies , linguistics ( linguistics ), medicine (especially speech therapy and phoniatry ), pedagogy , phonetics , sociology and psychology .

Education

Speech science can be studied at the following universities in Germany:

  • Saarland University , Saarbrücken: two-subject Master of Arts major and minor in German studies with a focus on speech studies and speech training.
  • University of Koblenz-Landau : Master's degree in Speech Science (NF) (until 2012), postgraduate additional degree in Speech Education, Speech Science as a non-psychological elective in the Bachelor's degree in Psychology.

organization

Most speech scientists are organized in the German Association of Speech Science and Speech Training (DGSS e. V.), which celebrated its 85th anniversary in 2015. Erich Drach is considered the founder of modern speech science and co-founded the forerunner organization, the German Committee for Speech Studies and Speech Education (DAfSuS), in Berlin in 1930.
