Ursula Hirschfeld

Ursula Hirschfeld (born January 7, 1953 in Apolda ) is a German speech scientist and phonetician . She is professor emeritus in the Speech Science and Phonetics Department at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg .

Life

Hirschfeld studied speech and German at the Martin Luther University in Halle-Wittenberg . From 1975 to 1992 she worked at the Herder Institute in Leipzig. She received her doctorate in 1982 in Halle as Dr. phil. , her dissertation dealt with the topic “Confrontational phonological-phonetic investigations Spanish-German”. She completed her habilitation in 1990 in Halle, the subject of her habilitation thesis was “Investigations into the phonetic intelligibility of German learners”, and the following year the University of Leipzig awarded her the Facultas docendi in the field of speech science. Her research focus is on phonology , phonetics and German as a foreign language . From 1992 to 1999 she was a professor for phonetics in German as a foreign language at the Herder Institute at the University of Leipzig, and in 1995 she was appointed adjunct professor.

In the 1999 summer semester, she was appointed professor of speech science with a focus on phonetics at the Institute for Speech Science and Phonetics at Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg . From 2000 she was head of the institute together with Lutz-Christian Anders and, from 2008, alternating with Baldur Neuber, head of the seminar for speech science and phonetics. In the summer semester of 2003 she was visiting professor at the University of Vienna . In 2017, Hirschfeld was awarded an honorary doctorate from the Voronezh State University . Her retirement took place in 2018.
