The Voronezh State University is one of the most important universities in Central Russia .

On 18 May 1918, the University was established to academic staff of the University of Tartu in Estonia's Tartu to Russia to move because Tartu was occupied in 1918 by German troops. Today around 22,000 students from all over the world study at the university.
