Stefan Wachtel (born July 30, 1960 in Worbis ) is a German executive trainer as well as a book author and speaker.

Life

During his military service with the NVA in 1980, Wachtel was imprisoned for five months in the Schwedt military prison for "defamation of the state" , about which he later wrote the prison diary of Delikt 220 . He studied speech and German at the University of Halle-Wittenberg . In the summer of 1989 he fled the GDR in a night campaign across the Hungarian-Austrian border near Sopron on Lake Neusiedl .

He then lived in Wiesbaden. Until 1996 he prepared ARD and ZDF presenters in one-week courses as part of the central training program for program staff (ZFP) together with Ernst Huberty . In addition, Wachtel was a crisis announcement coach for pilots. From 1998 to 2019 he was married to the author Sabina Wachtel, with whom he has a daughter. He received his doctorate in speech science at the University of Halle in 2002 with Ursula Hirschfeld and Hellmut Geißner , the subject of his dissertation was moderation in radio journalism. He has lived in Frankfurt am Main since 2005.

Wachtel prepared several TED Talks , Noah Conference and Digital Life Design appearances. He wrote for the Handelsblatt as one of the “five wise men” and analyzed the SPD candidate Martin Schulz as “the fourth authentic candidate for chancellor” before the 2017 federal election . He publishes columns as an “opinion maker” for Manager Magazin and is a columnist for Bilanz / Die Welt . The Süddeutsche Zeitung headlined its portrait from January 25, 2013 with “The Puppeteer of the Bosses”. Wachtel is also the initiator of the study for the “Best Manager Appearance” award (2016: CEO Continental, 2017. CEO SAP, 2018: CEO Deutsche Telekom). The Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung published his approach in an interview on February 10, 2019. Gabor Steingart also interviewed him repeatedly in his “Morning Briefing” podcast .

According to a report by Martin Heidingsfelder (co-founder of VroniPlag Wiki ), the contents of Wachtel's GDR prison diary “Delikt 220” can be found changed in Uwe Tellkamp's novel “ The Tower ” (pp. 729–828).
