Martin Heidingsfelder (born July 19, 1965 ) is a former American football player who won the German championship with the Ansbach Grizzlies in 1985 and was vice-European champion with the German national team two years later . As a co-founder of the VroniPlag Wiki , he became known to a wider public under the pseudonym Goalgetter .

Life

Heidingsfelder grew up in Ansbach and Windsbach , among others . In 1986 he graduated from the Martin-Behaim-Gymnasium in Nuremberg . He has been self-employed since 1988. In 1999 he obtained a degree in business administration from the Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nuremberg . From 1999 to 2002 he was a board member and managing director in the field of online research . Today he runs a "one-man company" by his own account.

Athletic career

In the 1980s Heidingsfelder was a player on the American football team of the Ansbach Grizzlies. With this club he became German runner-up in 1983, 1984 and 1986 and German champion in 1985. With the German national team, he was Vice-European Champion in 1987.

Political activities

Heidingsfelder joined the SPD in 2004 . In 2005 he was one of the initiators of the Angela? No thanks , which a black-yellow coalition wanted to prevent. In the local elections in March 2008 , he ran for the city council of Nuremberg, but failed to enter the city parliament. In October 2012, Heidingsfelder ended his membership in the SPD and admitted that he had been a member of the Pirate Party for some time . He ran on the state lists of pirates for the Bavarian state parliament and the Bundestag in 2013.

VroniPlag Wiki

Heidingsfelder co-founded the VroniPlag Wiki under the pseudonym Goalgetter in March 2011 after allegations of plagiarism against Veronica Saß, daughter of CSU politician Edmund Stoiber , had been published elsewhere. 19 July 2011 it was initially due to ongoing conflicts with other administrators of wikis withdrawn the advanced administration rights and finally his account on the platform by disputes over the use of the Internet service Twitter blocked 3 November 2011 for an unlimited period.

The VroniPlag community pointed out that Heidingsfelder did not assume a leading role in the wiki and that his public relations work was not welcome. His founding contribution was only to make "a mouse click". Apart from that, he was only one of many employees until his exclusion.

SchavanPlag Wiki

After a person working under the pseudonym Robert Schmidt published plagiarism posts under the title schavanplag at the blog host WordPress.com in the dissertation of the then German Science Minister Annette Schavan , Heidingsfelder started the SchavanPlag Wiki in May 2012 . There Heidingsfelder accused Schavan of copying from herself in her dissertation and, via the Augsburger Allgemeine Zeitung , demanded the Federal Minister's resignation.

After research by Spiegel Online , the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung and the daily newspaper Die Welt , the allegations of "self-plagiarism" could not be confirmed. An expert opinion by the University of Düsseldorf exonerated Schavan from the allegations made by Heidingsfelder.

After numerous media appearances in connection with the revocation of Annette Schavan's academic degree, both the operator of the blog schavanplag and the operator of the VroniPlag Wiki publicly distanced themselves from Martin Heidingsfelder at the beginning of 2013 . Heidingsfelder responded to this criticism by pointing out that he was being bullied.

PolitPlag Wiki

In view of the upcoming elections in 2013, Heidingsfelder started the commercially oriented company wiki PolitPlag Wiki , on which the dissertations of all candidate politicians can be examined for a fee (approx. 500 euros per working day). By March 2013, the platform had received funds amounting to 2500 euros, but no plagiarism was found.

In June 2013, Heidingsfelder raised allegations of plagiarism against the chief district court doctor at Ingolstadt district court, Hubert Haderthauer. A reviewer from the University of Würzburg , at whose medical faculty Haderthauer's doctoral thesis was accepted in 1986, came to the conclusion in a subsequent investigation that the suspicion of plagiarism was unfounded.

In August 2013, Heidingsfelder informed Ulm University of his suspicion of plagiarism in the dissertation of the psychiatrist Klaus Leipziger, who had prepared an expert opinion in the Gustl Mollath case . The University of Ulm rejected the allegations against Leipziger after an examination in October 2013 as unfounded. In a radio interview in November 2013, Leipziger described the plagiarism allegations, which Heidingsfelder still maintained, as politically motivated and "infamous". Heidingsfelder subsequently retracted his allegations in December 2013 as “untrue”, but refused to make such a statement to Bayerischer Rundfunk , which he had given an interview on this matter. Leipziger then sued Heidingsfelder before the Bayreuth Regional Court for the submission of a corresponding declaration and payment of EUR 5,000 in compensation for pain and suffering .

In April 2014 Heidingsfelder published a plagiarism charge against the Federal Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development Gerd Müller (Politiker, 1955) on the platform . After examining the allegations, the University of Regensburg announced in April 2014 that there was no basis for suspicion of scientific misconduct.

Motivation as a plagiarism hunter

In March 2019, Heidingsfelder told Münchner Merkur that, as a plagiarism hunter, he had made it his goal to “reduce science to a reasonable level of honesty”. For him it is "only about justice". In an interview published two months later, Heidingsfelder stated that the "original goal of chasing politicians has given way to the economic goal".

Consultant and private investigator in the Gustl Mollath case

On July 23, 2014, when Gustl Mollath's lawyers, Gerhard Strate and Johannes Rauwald , resigned their mandate as defense counsel in the reopening process due to differing views on requests for evidence, Heidingsfelder was referred to by Bayerischer Rundfunk as "Adviser & Supporter Gustl Mollath". He is about "that the defense now shows its teeth". As a private investigator, he tried unsuccessfully to introduce further evidence into the retrial against Mollath with a letter to the presiding judge Elke Escher . In the Süddeutsche Zeitung Heidingsfelder is referred to as the "currently [...] most controversial supporter" of Mollath and a connection is seen between Heidingsfelder's activities and Strate's resignation as Mollath's defender.
