Hydra Head Records was an American metal label that existed from 1995 to 2012.
history
The label has its origins in 1993, when it was still operating as a mail order business. In addition, the founder Aaron Turner booked a few local concerts under this name. Turner, who was still in high school at the time, mainly bought and sold records from labels such as Ebullition Records , Gravity Records , Victory Records , Vermiform Records and Lookout Records . In 1995, the trade turned into a label. When Turner booked a show for Coalesce in Santa Fe , New Mexico , in early 1995 , he met their roadie , who in turn introduced Turner to the band Vent. The label's first release came in the form of the Vent single Long Lost Human . Turner were sent copies of the phonogram from Erika Records, which sent the singles to magazines and mail order companies. Turner had previously lived even in Santa Fe, but moved at the time of release of the single in the fall of 1995 by Boston to there the art school to visit. In Boston he made new contacts with bands like Roswell, Corrin, Piebald and Converge . This was followed by the release of the single Despair Rides on Angel Wings by Corrin, before the first CD was released. In the late 1990s, Turner formed the band Isis with Jeff Caxide . After Turner graduated from college in 1999, he was able to devote himself full-time to the label. After the release of numerous records and a steady growth of the label, the closure of the label was announced in September 2012 due to financial difficulties and disputes among managers. No new phonograms have been released since December 2012; only those previously published were offered for sale in order to be able to pay off the debts incurred. Two years earlier, Isis had also broken up. Since then he has devoted himself to other band projects such as Mamiffer and Old Man Gloom. He also runs the SIGE label with his wife Faith Coloccia.
