Agoraphobic Nosebleed is an American grindcore band from Massachusetts .

Band history

Agoraphobic Nosebleed was founded in 1994 by Scott Hull and a few friends. In the absence of a drummer, a drum machine was used and has been used on all releases ever since. After a few extended plays and split EPs , the band's debut album, Honkey Reduction , was released in 1998 on the grindcore and death metal label Relapse Records . In the meantime, Jay Randall (ex- Isis , Japanese Torture Comedy Hour ) and Carl Schultz had joined two other permanent band members after the line-up had fluctuated considerably in previous years.

The album Frozen Corpse Stuffed with Dope (2002) was a return to the 1990s Grindcore from Earache and made the band known in the metal press, including Kerrang! . Various musicians from Brutal Truth , Necrophagia , Benümb and Cephalic Carnage took part in the album . The band's only live appearance was at the 2003 New England Metal and Hardcore Festival . On April 1, 2003, Agoraphobic Nosebleed released the 3 '' CD Altered States of America with 100 songs in 20 minutes.

In 2005, the double CD Bestial Machinery was released , which includes all songs before the record deal with Relapse Records, as well as some unreleased songs. A year later a remix album was released with the title PCP Torpedo / ANbRx . The first 10 songs are by Agoraphobic Nosebleed, 14 songs are remix versions of various sound snippets by Agoraphobic Nosebleed, including Merzbow .

In 2009, Katherine Katz joined the band as the third singer and replaced Carl Schultz. With her the band recorded the album Agorapocalypse , which, compared to the extreme standard of the previous albums, seems almost conventional.

Music genre

Agoraphobic Nosebleed play fast grindcore on the border to noise core , paired with some elements from electronic music . The drum computer was also designed for speed, sometimes with around 100,000 beats per minute , so that only noise can be heard in places. The length of the song ranges from a few seconds to two minutes. The lyrics of the albums address both the splatter and gore themes common in the 1990s , as well as socially critical themes such as drug abuse and homophobia . The texts are sometimes very sarcastic and often only consist of free associations. An exception is the 2009 album Agorapocalypse , which has clear song structures and is a bit more moderate overall. Bands like Cryptic Slaughter , Dirty Rotten Imbeciles and Corrosion of Conformity can be seen as clear influences.

The band members, especially Scott Hull, have been active in the grindcore scene for years. Hull also plays with Pig Destroyer and was part of the cast of Anal Cunt for a short time .
