Mamiffer is an American post rock / drone band founded by the Seattle musician, graphic artist and photographer Faith Coloccia (including ex-Everlovely Lightningheart and House of Low Culture ). Originally a guest musician, her husband Aaron Turner (including ex- Isis and House of Low Culture) quickly became a permanent part of the band. Numerous guest musicians play with the two, including Eyvind Kang and Don McGreavy (ex- Earth ).

style

Mamiffer's style is given by the piano, underlined by field recordings , tape hiss, fragmentary vocals, as well as bass guitar, electric guitar and acoustic guitar and numerous other instruments, from drums to cello . The overall compositions have an ambient character and often elements of the drone . Since Mamiffer participate strongly in crossing musical boundaries, a clear stylistic classification is not possible.

history

In 2008 they released their first album Hirror Enniffer on Hydra Head Records , of which Aaron Turner is co-founder.

In order to gain more control over their artistic creation, Turner and Coloccia founded a new label called SIGE in March 2011. The second album Mare Decendrii , produced by Randall Dunn (including Sunn O))) ), a live split with Merzbow and House of Low Culture, and a split with Oakeater had already been released. In 2013 a split cassette was realized with the side project House of Low Culture, under which Coloccia and Turner also frequently appear.
