Aaron Bradford Turner is a born November 5, 1977 in Springfield , Massachusetts , graphic designer , singer , guitarist, and independent label operator. As a musician and singer he is a co-founder of various bands and often guest musician on other projects.

Turner's projects are subordinate to musical styles such as Drone Doom , Post-Industrial , Post-Rock and Post-Metal . Turner became known as the guitarist and singer of the post-metal band Isis . His other projects include Old Man Gloom , Sumac , Lotus Eaters and Mamiffer . Turner has appeared as a guest at Converge , Twilight , Puscifer and Pelican .

Turner also founded the Hydra Head Records and SIGE labels . Hydra Head in particular contributed to the popularization of the post-metal and drone doom genres. Hydra Head was initiated by teenage Turner in 1993 as a mail order punk rock record company. Two years later the first own publication appeared, which laid the foundation for the operation as a label. Another two to three years later, the label developed into a prominent and trendsetting company in the independent metal sector. The label SIGE, founded together with his wife Faith Coloccia in 2011, is primarily dedicated to the couple's various projects.

Turner is also considered a respected artwork designer. He designed album covers for Converge, Agoraphobic Nosebleed , Jesu , Buzzov • en , Torche and a number of other projects with his participation. His graphic style "is often described as abstract and surreal, with a penchant for fantastic landscapes and unusual structures." His works have been exhibited several times, including at the Virginia Museum of Contemporary Art .

Life

Turner was born on November 5, 1977 in Springfield, Massachusetts. The family moved to New Mexico in early childhood. He himself later went to Boston to study art at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts . There he founded the post-metal band Isis with his roommate Jeff Caxide . After graduating from college, Turner moved to Los Angeles . In 2009 he moved to Seattle , where he married his partner Faith Coloccia. The couple have a daughter together. The spouses and musicians who cooperate musically with Mamiffer founded the SIGE label together in 2011.
