Goatsnake is a US Stoner Doom - band from Los Angeles . It was founded in late 1996 after The Obsessed was dissolved.

history

The Goatsnake members have all played in various other bands before. Singer Peter Stahl used to be a member of the hardcore band Scream and the rock band Wool . Her guitarist, Greg Anderson , previously played with Engine Kid, and both her drummer, Greg Rogers, and bassist, Guy Pinhas, played on The Obsessed .

In 1998 the band released their first two singles, but although they subsequently became known underground, the debut album was not released until 1999. This was followed by a European tour with Unida , Fatso Jetson and Electric Wizard . In the spring of 2000, Guy Pinhas left the band. The former Burning Witch member Stuart Dahlquist was added as bass player .

After several small releases, the second and final album, Flower of Disease , was released. Although it was not announced for a year, Dahlquist left the band shortly afterwards.

The band never really broke up, according to Greg Anderson, only paused due to time problems. Goatsnake also played at the 2010 Roadburn Festival .

style

The Encyclopedia of Heavy Metal describes Goatsnake as a "supergroup of sorts" and justifies this with the professionalism of the members. As a result, their first album, Goatsnake I, released in May 1999, sounded "so tight and focused" as if it were their fifth. The contrast between the "smooth and soulful" voice of Stahl and the "heavy pounding, deep" guitar sound is praised.

They themselves described their music as follows: "Imagine Ozzy with Stevie Wonder 's soul."
