Rise Above Records is a British record label based in London . It was founded in 1989 by Lee Dorrian , who was a member of the grindcore band Napalm Death up until that year and founded the doom metal band Cathedral a year later . The label was named after the song Rise Above on the napalm death EP Mentally Murdered , to which Dorrian had contributed the vocals .
history
The first releases were live EPs by the bands Napalm Death and SOB, as well as an album by the British hardcore punk band Long Cold Stare. The next album What's the Truth? by SOB, which appeared in 1991, represented a turning point in the history of the label in two respects. On the one hand, it was the first release by Rise Above Records in addition to the LP edition also in a version on MC and CD , on the other hand it was the last release of the label, which can be assigned to grindcore or hardcore punk. A short time later, the label released the compilation Dark Passages with bands from the field of Doom Metal, such as Cathedral, Saint Vitus , Solitude Aeturnus and Count Raven . Most of the later releases of the label can also be assigned to this genre and the related stoner rock . These include albums by the bands Electric Wizard , Grand Magus and Orange Goblin .
Under the name Rise Above Relics , the label releases albums by rock bands from the 1960s and 1970s , including Necromandus , Luv Machine and the British Steel Mill.
