Witchcraft is a Swedish hard rock and doom metal band from Örebro, founded in 2000 .

history

Career

Witchcraft was founded in 2000 by Magnus Pelander after he quit his work for the stoner-doom band Norrsken . The band made their first appearance as Wicked Angel, but Pelander changed the name to Witchcraft in the first year of activity. In 2002 the band released their first single No Angel or Demon on Primitive Art Records . Shortly thereafter, they were signed by Rise Above Records , the Lee Dorrian- led doom metal music label , where the band's debut album was finally released in 2004. Pelander had previously sent Dorrian a copy of the single and thus aroused his interest in the band. In 2005 the second album Firewood and a split EP with Circulus followed . A US tour with Danava followed in the fall, and Pentagram singer Bobby Liebling performed in Washington with Witchcraft and sang two Pentagram songs. After returning from the US tour, the band played the single If Crimson Was Your Color , released in November 2006 . The third studio album, The Alchemist , was subsequently released in October 2007 cooperatively by Rise Above Records, Leaf Hound Records and Candlelight Records . This was followed by a split EP with The Sword via Kemado Records . After Magnus Pelander devoted himself to solo activities for a while, the group announced in 2012 that they had changed their contractual partner. The fourth studio album Legend was released in 2012 via the new partner Nuclear Blast . Another single followed in 2015, The Outcast, which, in addition to its own track, contained a cover song by the grunge band Nirvana . Nuclear Blast released the fifth studio album Nucleus in 2016 .

Cast history

The musicians alongside the singer and guitarist Pelander changed frequently in the group's career. The only permanent member of the band remained Pelander, but he gave his fellow musicians the competence to participate in the songwriting, whereby the publications changed with the musicians. The first appearance was with Ola (bass) and Jens Henriskon (drums) as well as with John Hoyles (guitar). However, this line-up broke up immediately after the performance. The single was recorded with this line-up. Pelander made his debut with the brothers Mats (bass) and Jonas Arnesén (drums). With the release of the album, Mats Arnesén left again to be replaced again by Ola Henriksson. The album Firewood was then recorded in the band constellation Pelander, Hoyles, Ola Henriksson and Jonas Arnesén . Following the release, Arnesén was eliminated from the group and was replaced by Fredrik Jansson. Until the release of the split EP, which was released together with The Sword, the line-up was again changed by Pelander. Next to him, Ola Henriksson stayed in the band. Two guitarists, Tom Jondelius and Simon Solomon, were performed as fellow musicians, so that Pelander concentrated exclusively on singing. Then there was the new drummer Oscar Johansson. With the release of the single The Outcast , the band had turned into a trio. Pelander took over the guitar and vocals again. Tobias Anger got involved as bass player and Rage Widerberg joined the band as drummer.
