Life Records , actually Hup Hup Sdn. Bhd. , is a music label founded in 1949 in Kuala Lumpur .

history

It was founded in 1949, followed by foreign subsidiaries, specifically Life Records Limited in Hong Kong in 1960 and Life Record Industries Pte Ltd in Singapore in 1966 .

According to their own information, Life Records was the first regional licensee of renowned foreign record companies, including the US label Columbia Records ( marketed internationally as CBS ), MCA Records (a subsidiary of the Music Corporation of America that was merged with Geffen Records in 2003 ) and Kapp Records (1967 on MCA sold and discontinued in 1973).

Until the early 1980s was the only musical Life Records label, the Indonesian music legally correct licensed in Malaysia marketed - otherwise it was only in breach of copyright sold copies , that is pirated . In 1981 a joint venture with Asia Pacific Records followed in order to market Indonesian artists even more intensively. In line with the spirit of the times and local conditions, a division of 80% music cassettes and 20% records was calculated in production.

Trivia

With its managing director Ng Cheong Hock, Life Records is represented with a seat on the council of the “Recording Industry Association of Malaysia” in the 2016–2018 term of office. During the same period, Hock is also a board member of “One Stop Music”.
