Manfred Wolf (legal scholar)

Manfred Wolf (born January 5, 1939 in Ulm ; † June 1, 2007 in Nashville ) was a German legal scholar .

Live and act

After studying in Tübingen and Munich , Manfred Wolf passed the first state examination in law in 1962 in Tübingen . In 1965 he received his doctorate from Ludwig Raiser with a thesis on total rights in rem . In 1966 he passed the second state examination. In 1970 he qualified as a professor at Fritz Baur with a thesis on legal freedom of choice and contractual reconciliation of interests . This work marked the beginning of a series of publications on freedom of contract.

After substituting professorships at the universities in Berlin and Frankfurt , Manfred Wolf was appointed full professor for civil law , civil procedural law and labor law in 1972 until his retirement in 2004. In addition to his professorship, Wolf worked as a judge at the Frankfurt Higher Regional Court from 1977–1999 held lectures as a visiting professor at Kobe University . After his retirement, Wolf worked as a lawyer in Frankfurt am Main.

Wolf's main focus was on the general part of the BGB as well as the general law of obligations and property law . Examples of this are his many years of commenting on the Soergel and his very successful textbook on property law.

Academic students of Wolf are Thomas Pfeiffer , Jochen Marly and Jens Damann.
