history

Beginnings and first demos (2002-2004)

The founding members knew each other from school, but did not yet master any instruments. Instead, they launched The Prosecution to impress the local girls. They gave the concerts in the first year as a cover band , mostly in the party cellars of their hometown. Songs from u. a. AC / DC , Ramones , the Sex Pistols or Black Sabbath .

The band subsequently became aware of the then popular skate punk , known from bands like blink-182 or NOFX , and played their first songs shortly afterwards. The band made the first demo recording a year later (2003).

When Johannes' brother Valentin Damjantschitsch joined the band as a trombonist in 2004, the Ska elements were added to create the characteristic Skacore sound. Shortly thereafter, Johannes Laubmeier expanded the wind section as a trumpeter and in the course of the year the first concerts outside Abensberg took place.

EPs Law & Order and Move On (2005-2009)

After Moritz Lautenschlager initially completed the group as a saxophonist in 2005, the band recorded their own debut EP Law & Order . In the following two years the first nationwide concerts took place.

In 2007, the second EP, Move On , was produced and released with the then drummer of The Blackout Argument , Phil Seidl, followed by a first tour with The Passive Fists and The Rumble Bumble Bees.

In 2009 Johannes Laubmeier left the band and was replaced on the trumpet by Felix Andrews.

Droll Stories , first tour of Germany (2010-2011)

The label Fatsound Records became aware of the band and signed them in 2010. The band then recorded their first album together with Phil Seidl; Droll Stories was published on June 12, 2010 and led to the first Germany-wide tour.

During the Germany tour in 2010, guitarist and founding member Thomas Limmer left the group and was replaced in 2011 by Dennis Weichinger, who is also active in the punk band Settle Down.

At the Edge of the End (2012)

In the late summer of 2012, the band began work on their second album, together with Corni Bartels, who had previously worked with bands such as the Killerpilzen or End of Green . The recordings took place in the Munich space studios. The Mighty Mighty Bosstones front man Dicky Barrett can be heard on the song "Learning Life".

The recordings were interrupted for another tour of Germany around the turn of the year 2013, while the bassist Lukas Preiß left the band. His successor Mario Hauser joined the band in February 2013.

The second album At the Edge of the End was released on May 24, 2013 under the Long Beach Records label, which The Prosecution signed in March of that year. The band went on tour in Germany again, at times as support for Reel Big Fish and Suburban Legends . In March 2013 the single Ironic Phrases was released.

Words With Destiny (2015)

On February 27, 2015, the third longplayer Words With Destiny was released again on Long Beach Records. The music is a bit darker in terms of the tenor of the lyrics, without getting lost in hopelessness or despair. Chris # 2 from Anti-Flag is also represented with a feature on the album.

The Unfollowing (2017)

On August 11, 2017, the fourth album was released under the name The Unfollowing with the singles Where We Belong and My Silent Phone And Me on Long Beach Records. They reached number 2 in the German alternative charts.

The Prosecution has played a total of 350 concerts since 2002.

reception

The music magazine UglyPunk saw the band in 2013 as “one of the best ska-punk bands, and even seen it on the international scene.” The Ox-Fanzine judged that the album “At The Edge Of The End” was “varied, considering the overall concept this excellent record is extremely good. ”The band has“ really developed into excellent musicians who also express themselves politically. ”After its release, the album took second place in the Amazon Ska charts.

style

The music is a mix of ska , California punk and hardcore punk . Dynamite Magazine writes that the band combines “musical hardness up to uncompromising hardcore and metal with the absolute will to a groovy party”. In terms of content, the band deals with political issues such as capitalist exploitation or the control of the people through media violence and addresses social issues such as the fear of a domestic-bourgeois life plan and economic uncertainty. However, the band emphasizes: "Where there is the strength to look and take responsibility, there has to be room for nonsense and partying."

other activities

The Prosecution are politically and socially active. At a festival, for example, the band raised over 2,000 euros for the human rights organization ProAsyl .

The drummers Johannes Damjantschitsch and Lukas Schätzl could be seen in both the short film Tage wie Jahre (2008) and in the feature film Trans Bavaria (2011) (both by director Konstantin Ferstl ).
