Bochum total
Bochum Total is an annual music festival in the Bermuda3eck in Bochum . The festival started in 1986 with two stages and has grown into one of the largest free rock-pop festivals in Europe. The festival begins on the Thursday before the summer holidays in North Rhine-Westphalia .
concept
The content approach
Bochum Total primarily presents progressive and original music. The bands should, if possible, pursue their own musical approach and have to play live. Stylistically, the spectrum ranges from jazz to hard rock .
Bands that made their national breakthrough a year or two later, such as the Donots , Wir sind Helden , Seeed , Oomph! , Silbermond , ZSK , MIA. or The Happy . As a representative of pop music, for example, Sasha, who was still unknown at the time, appeared in a duo with Benedikt Scherf as Hin & Hair Schmitz . 1,300 artist applications are received every year.
Visiting Bochum Total is free. The festival takes place in downtown Bochum, which is partially closed to motor vehicle traffic for the long weekend. The online magazine Getaddicted has been reporting in detail in front of and behind the scenes of the festival since 2007.
Promotion of young talent
Part of the event concept is to give the young people from the region the chance to perform in front of a large audience. Some bands qualify for participation via regional newcomer festivals, others are selected directly. The selection is made by the organizer together with the city of Bochum's cultural office. All in all, around a third of the around 70 seats on the stage are available to young artists each year.
