At the 2011 Biberach Film Festival he was nominated for the debut beaver . The regular cinema release was on March 1, 2012. Since September 7, 2012 the film has also been available on DVD .

The Süddeutsche Zeitung described Trans Bavaria as "An ingeniously spun rebel fantasy with cult film potential. Redefinition of road and buddy movies in Lower Bavaria. The great discovery of the film days."

action

The three freshly graduated high school graduates Quirinalis , Joker and Wursti , who live in Lower Bavaria , plan to disrupt their school's high school graduation ceremony and use it as a forum for their criticism of the system. To do this, they secretly took their high school diplomas . However, the action gets out of hand, with not only the certificates going up in flames, but also a little tree that the classmates planted shortly before.

In the evening, Quirinalis has the idea of going to Moscow with Joker and Wursti , where Fidel Castro will give a speech a few days later on the occasion of his last trip abroad on Red Square . In addition, he even accepts the break with his girlfriend, who wants to go to Vienna to attend an audition there.

The three of them set off that same night. For this they borrowed the minibus from Wursti's father without asking. It is the delivery truck of the parents' butcher's shop with a big pig on the roof.

The journey goes through Lower Bavaria, the Czech Republic , Poland and the Ukraine to Russia , where the friends have an accident just across the border. Nobody is injured, but the minibus is no longer roadworthy. Pushing the latter, the friends finally reach an old monastery, where they meet an Austrian named Trotta, who has lived there for several years.

Until the bus is repaired, the three are stuck in the monastery. They pass the time, make friends with four monks , who are now also living in the monastery again, and help to put out a fire in the monastery church. In doing so, existing subliminal conflicts break out. Trotta finally persuades Quirinalis to return home with his friends without having been to Red Square first.

The entire plot is interspersed with numerous allusions to historical events and people. Among other things, it shows how Che Guevara and Fidel Castro once appeared to the Quirinalis and awakened in him the desire to become a revolutionary . Classic films like Das Boot or Harry Potter are also parodied.

background

As in his short film Tage wie Jahre three years earlier, Konstantin Ferstl processed numerous autobiographical elements. As a freshly graduated high school graduate, he made a trip to Red Square and even further to Beijing, in contrast to the main characters in the film, however, alone and by train. The main part of Trans Bavaria is based on Ferstl's travel diary Silbervogel, which he wrote back then .

In the first part in particular, Trans Bavaria shows numerous parallels in content to days and years . The actors of Joker and Wursti had already embodied these roles back then; the main role of Quirinalis was newly cast.

Filming

The former Biburg Abbey near Abensberg

The film was shot in summer 2010 on numerous locations in Lower Bavaria, the Czech Republic, Poland and Slovakia as well as in Tilbury, England .

The shooting in Lower Bavaria was concentrated in the Kelheim district . The scenes in the Russian monastery were filmed in the Biburg monastery . The Allersdorf pilgrimage church can also be seen in the film. The scenes at the graduation ceremony were filmed with great support from the local population in the palace gardens of Abensberg , the director's hometown. The beer garden of the Berghammer butcher's restaurant is in the Oberndorf district of Bad Abbach , the Ukrainian-Russian border crossing at the Kelheim lock .
