Großneundorf is a district of the city of Gräfenthal in the Saalfeld-Rudolstadt district in Thuringia .

location

Großneundorf is located north of Gräfenthal and above the Wespenstein Castle near Gräfenthal, which lies on a mountain spur, between meadows and forests of the Thuringian Slate Mountains . To the northwest of the district lies the wooded Gösselsberg, 675 meters above sea level, on the boundary of the neighboring community. The main road in 2687 connects the district with Gräfenthal and other places. The hilly plateau of the low mountain range is wooded around the corridor.

For the people living in the village, forest and, to a limited extent, agriculture and tourism are the main sources of income. The village is characterized by the Evangelical Lutheran Church , a baroque church with a Fincke organ.

history

The district was first mentioned in a document on April 23, 1394. On October 9, 1806, the day before the battle near Saalfeld , Prussian hussars fought a retreat against an advance guard of French troops on the steep Gösselsberg.

On April 9, 1994 (date of legal effect) the place was incorporated into Graefenthal.
