history

Foundation and first album

Guitarist Christof Leim

The guitarists Christof Leim and Fabian Schwarz got to know each other during the Earthshaker Festival 2006 . Both were bored with the performance of the band Lordi and talked about riffs and bands and decided to form a band together. For a long time, Leim had been thinking about founding a heavy rock band with riffs that he couldn't use for his band, The Traceelords , at the time. In the following years, Leim and Schwarz exchanged various song ideas and recorded the first demos . The line-up was completed by the singer Markus Hammer , the bassist Günther Auschrat and the drummer Chris Weiss.

In the summer of 2008 the band released a demo with eleven songs, which was voted "Demo of the month" by the magazines Metal Hammer , Rock Hard , Guitar and Rocks . The demo brought The New Black into a contract with AFM Records, the completed demo recordings including three new songs released as a studio album in January 2009 under the title The New Black . The band produced a music video for the song "Ballad of Broken Angels", which The New Black had written for a previously unfinished US independent film of the same name . It contains scenes from the film's trailer . Shortly after the release of the debut album, the band went on a European tour with Volbeat . Further concerts followed in the opening act of Black Label Society and Alter Bridge .

II: Better in Black and III: Cut Loose

Singer Markus Hammer

In the summer of 2010, The New Black initially played u. a. at the Rock am Ring and Wacken Open Air festivals , then on June 20 in front of 65,000 spectators in Dresden in the opening act of AC / DC . The second studio album II: Better in Black was released in January 2011. The band shot a music video for the song “The King I Was”. Also in 2011 the band contributed a cover version of the Metallica song Sad but True for a tribute sampler for the German magazine Metal Hammer. In 2012 the first headlining tour through Germany followed with the support groups Tieflader and Crossplane , before The New Black began work on their third studio album.

For mixing and mastering , the band was able to engage Jacob Hansen , who previously worked with Volbeat, among others. III: Cut Loose was released in March 2013, after which the band went on the Rock'n'Roll Overdose tour through Germany. For the song Sharkpool , the band shot a music video inspired by the Augsburger Puppenkiste . The video reached the heavy rotation in the Burger King - Fast-food restaurants . In early 2014, The New Black toured with Dark Age and played at the Summer Breeze Festival in the summer .

A monster's life

A year later, the band began work on their fourth album, which was interrupted by Black Label Society before a tour in Germany . For their fourth album, the band wanted to work again with Jacob Hansen, with Hansen acting as a producer . To finance the project, the musicians started a crowdfunding campaign via the Pledge Music platform . The album A Monster's Life was released on February 26, 2016. Shortly thereafter, drummer Chris Weiss left the band. His successor was Philipp Klinger, with whom The New Black embarked on "A Monster's Tour". In April of the same year the band performed for the first time in France. In the summer of 2016, shows at the Rock im Revier festival and in the opening act for Sixx: AM in Hamburg followed .

On the occasion of their ten-year band anniversary, The New Black will play a special concert in Schweinfurt on January 7, 2017 . Motorjesus and Serpent Smile appear as opening acts .
