A monster's life -

A Monster's Life is the fourth studio album by the German hard rock band The New Black . It was released on February 26, 2016 via AFM Records .

Emergence

Guitarist Fabian Schwarz first wrote a complete album with which he wanted to go new musical ways. Among other things, Schwarz experimented with lower pitched guitars . The result sounded like Stoner Rock and, according to Schwarz, was too far removed from the music, which the band has done so far. Thereupon Schwarz started all over again, but used fragments of the original titles in one or two songs.

After the band had previously produced their own albums, the musicians looked for an external producer for the first time . The musicians didn't want to repeat themselves, and they were annoyed by criticism such as "You're somehow awesome on stage!" The choice fell on Jacob Hansen , who became known for his work with Volbeat . To finance the production and Hansen's fee, the band started a crowdfunding campaign. The album was recorded in the Jam Productions Studios in Würzburg . Then saw Jacob Hansen in his own studio in Danish Ribe for mixing and mastering .

The band also wanted to break new ground optically and, in contrast to the previous albums, did without skulls on the album cover . According to the guitarist Christof Leim , another picture with such rock clichés would be boring. For the songs Long Time Coming and With a Grin were music videos rotated.

reception

For Matthias Mineur from the German magazine Metal Hammer, "the powerful songs sound more focused than on the last studio work". A Monster's Life offers “steadfast, blues-influenced Heavy Rock with lots of big and small highlights as well as two or three real monster scavengers”, for which Mineur awarded six out of seven points. Jens Peters from the German magazine Rock Hard described A Monster's Life as "the band's best album to date" because they "are more varied than their predecessors and don't shy away from thinking outside the box", for which Peters eight out of ten Awarded points. Tobias Kreutzer from the online magazine Metal.de, on the other hand, described the album as "technically very solid, but on the other hand also not very independent". But he criticized the "very strenuous testosterone-saturated grater rock star imitation" when singing, for which Kreutzer gave six out of ten points.
