Dark Age is a German rock / metal band from Hamburg .

history

In 1994 Eike Freese, André Schumann and Oliver Fliegel founded a death metal band called "Dyer's Eve". In 1995 they changed the name to "Dark Age", a song title by the band Vader . In the fall of 1995, the band recorded the first demo Doubtful Existence , which they did not release. With keyboardist Martin Reichert, who joined the band in December 1995 , Dark Age recorded the demo again in January 1996. Although the band was still not happy with the production, they released the demo with an edition of 100 copies. Shortly after the recordings, the second guitarist F. Dierks joined the band. The band played three concerts with the Hamburg band AOP and then separated from Oliver Fliegel due to musical differences.

In 1996 the band recorded their first demo for the third time, as well as two other tracks in the Under Pressure Studio . As a replacement for Oliver Fliegel, F. Dierks played bass. The new violinist Sonja played on one of the new pieces . Hendrik Brückner played briefly with Dark Age, but was soon replaced by Torsten Eggert, who quit his job for the band. In June 1997 Dark Age played their first concert in front of a larger audience at a festival with Totenmond , Dimple Minds and other bands. F. Dierks moved to the USA in the summer of 1997 and was replaced by Jörn Schubert from AOP . The band played a few concerts with Northern Rage and the follow-up band Stormwarrior . In January 1998 F. Dierks came back and played the guitar again, including at a concert with The Crown and Sacrilege in Hamburg. He left the band in February due to musical differences and Jörn Schubert came back.

In the summer of 1998 Dark Age recorded the first album The Fall in the Absurd Studio of the band Temple of the Absurd . Until the summer of 1999, Dark Age played many concerts, including as the opening act for Die Apokalyptischen Reiter . The label Remedy Records finally signed a contract with Dark Age and released The Fall . The band played other concerts, including as the opening act for Eisregen and Primordial . An appearance at the Wave-Gotik-Treffen 2000 had to be canceled because the festival was canceled. Shortly afterwards the band recorded the second album Insurrection and played at the Wacken Open Air .

In 2002 the next album The Silent Republic was recorded in Stage One Studio with Andy Classen . In 2003 the demos were re-recorded in the newly founded studio and published on the Remonstrations CD . The band played again at the Wacken Open Air in front of around 5000 spectators. The Silent Republic was released in some European countries and Japan. In 2004 the latest album Dark Age was released .

On September 3, 2005, the live DVD Live, so Far ... was recorded in the Markthalle in Hamburg, which was released in 2006. In 2006 Torsten Eggert left the band and was replaced by Alex Henke. In 2008 the album Minus Exitus was released , which has been named album of the month by Metal Hammer .

On November 13th, 2009 the sixth studio album Acedia was released on the Hamburg label AFM Records , where a record deal has just been signed. The album was produced and mixed by band member Eike Freese. The cover artwork was created by Niklas Sundin .
