Minus Exitus ( Latin for minus death ) is the fifth studio album by the German melodic death metal band Dark Age . It was released on February 22, 2008 via Remedy Records .

Emergence

After the release of the DVD “Live, So Far…” the band began to write new songs. At the same time, singer and guitarist Eike Freese began commissioning his "Eikey Studio". Since the neighboring companies in the studio building complained about the noise from the studio, some modifications had to be made. To make matters worse, the studio dates for other bands were already getting closer. The recordings for “Minus Exitus” thus took place in stages between the other productions. The original release date in April 2007 could not be kept. Initially, the publication was postponed to autumn 2007. After all, it wasn't published until February 2008. All music was written by the band together, the lyrics completely by Eike Freese.

The album was produced and mixed by Eike Freese. "Minus Exitus" was mastered by Olman Viper. The artwork was designed by dark tranquility guitarist Niklas Sundin . Guest musicians include Dew Scented singer Leif Jensen, the former Dark Fortress singer "Azathoth" and ex- Nayled singer Ron Brunke. The piano on “October” was recorded by IM Pietro.

Meanings

With the album title, the band wants to express that you can emerge stronger from negative experiences. In an interview, Eike Freese explained the meanings of the songs:

  • In “Black September” Freese tried to describe the arrogance of the western world from the perspective of the people of the Middle East .
  • “Outside the Inside” is about obsessional neuroses , for example people who often do not leave their home for a long time.
  • "The Dying Art of Recreation" describes the difficulty a person has in recovering from blows of fate. The text contains various quotations from Friedrich Nietzsche .
  • "Exit Wounds" is about people hurting other people when they are hurt or tortured themselves. These people hope that this will relieve their own pain.
  • "Seven" refers to the seven deadly sins . The song begins with a dialogue from the movie Seven : " Ernest Hemingway once wrote: 'The world is so beautiful and worth it that you fight for it.' - I agree with the second part. "
  • “No Way Home” describes a home, family and friends as important pillars in a person's life. It is the first Dark Age song with clear vocals since "My own Darkness" on the album "Dark Age" (2004).
  • "Life for Blood" criticizes today's music industry. Due to a lack of funding from the record companies , many talented bands cannot record albums.
  • "The Echoes Discipline" deals with personal vices that everyone has and that one has to face. Eike Freese dedicated the text to the former bass player Torsten Eggert.

On “The Ghost of Libra” you can hear a clock ticking for ten seconds . The point is that human life is finite.
