Atlas Losing Grip was a Swedish melodic punk band that was founded in 2005 and was active worldwide .

history

2005–2009 foundation and "Shut The World Out"

The band was founded in 2005 by Stefan Bratt on bass and vocals and his younger school friend Gustav Burn on electric guitar. After some initial line-up changes and two demos in 2006 and 2007, the line-up with Max Huddén (guitar) and Julian Guedj (drums) was established before the group recorded their first album Shut The World Out in October 2007 and in July 2008 published. In the following 18 months the band toured Europe .

In 2009 Rodrigo Alfaro , who had previously been active with the 2007 disbanded Satanic Surfers and the Swedish band Venerea and had thus achieved a higher level of awareness, joined Atlas Losing Grip.

2009-2013 "Watching The Horizon" and "State Of Unrest"

For the remainder of 2009, the band ended their tour with a concert tour of Greece before releasing the 5-song EP Watching The Horizon that year.

At the beginning of 2010, Atlas Losing Grip started a headlining tour, which took them through Slovenia , Italy , Switzerland , Germany , France , Belgium and the Netherlands , before joining a few selected festivals and a short Scandinavia tour in the summer Bad religion played. In May the second album State Of Unrest was released. It was produced by guitarist Gustav Burn. In order to be able to concentrate exclusively on the music, Atlas Losing Grip found a suitable management in Flo von Schwarz from Hamburg Records . Afterwards, Atlas Losing Grip played a tour that lasted around two years, on which they also applied outside of Europe for the first time. During some sections of the tour, Atlas Losing Grip played together with Millencolin , NOFX , Donots , ZSK , No Fun At All and Billy Talent . Furthermore, the band recorded another EP on which only acoustic songs can be heard.

2013 to 2016 "currents" and dissolution

In February 2013 Atlas Losing Grip started studio work in Sweden for the third album, which lasted until November. The recordings were interrupted by a few summer festivals. The album was released on January 16, 2015 under the title Currents .

On November 25, 2014, the band announced that singer Rodrigo Alfaro would leave the band. Niklas Olsson took his place. Alfaro rejoined the reunited Satanic Surfers with whom he had previously been active. On April 13, 2016, the band announced their breakup.

Musical style and reception

The musical style of Atlas Losing Grip is described as typical of the genre of melodic punk , using a variety of style elements that are partially untypical for the genre. Atlas Losing Grip uses passages that are played extremely quickly and elements from the hardcore genre . The music portal laut.de sees influences from other bands in the genre, namely Bad Religion , Rise Against and Millencolin . Between 2009 and 2014 the distinctive voice of lead singer Rodrigo Alfaro had a significant influence on the pieces produced by Atlas Losing Grip. The texts of the pieces are described as "critical of society, society and religion". The group's live concerts are "experienced" and "explosive".

The 2011 album State of Unrest was seen as an aggressive album with anarchist lyrics. Distinctive guitar riffs and - typical of the punk genre - fast rhythms in the pieces are emphasized. The singer's voice is compared to Greg Graffin of Bad Religion and Tim McIlrath of Rise Against in terms of color and melody .

In the 2015 album Currents , Andreas Dittmann recognizes a “ maritime theme” with “seafaring metaphors”. The socially critical messages of the previous album have given way to personal statements by the singer. Musically too, Dittmann describes a strong change compared to State of Unrest , in particular due to significantly more influences from the metal genre. Some pieces were reminiscent of Metallica . The album is described positively as an “astonishingly versatile album” and “a worthy cut in the band's history”, but the mix is criticized .
