Culprit is an American heavy metal band from Seattle .

history

In 1979 the two heavy metal bands Orpheus and Amethyst played a concert at a high school . Since both bands could not achieve any notable success, the Orpheus members John DeVol ( guitar ), Scott Earl ( bass ) and Bud Burill ( drums ) formed the band with the amethyst singer Jeff L'Heureux and the guitarist Kjartan Kristoffersen in 1982 Culprit. The band name is the English word for accused .

In the founding year, the band released two demos and controlled a song for the sampler U.S. Metal, Vol. 2 at. Eventually the band was signed by Shrapnel Records . In the fall of 1983, the debut album Guilty as Charged was released, which musically offers a mixture of hard rock of the 1970s and the New Wave of British Heavy Metal . The German magazine Rock Hard named Guilty as Charged "Album of the Month", which later took place 476 in a list of the 500 best albums of all time compiled by Rock Hard .

The band's success surprised the band and singer Jeff L'Heureux in particular struggled with drug problems in the period that followed . After Scott Earl and Kjartan Kristoffersen left the band for TKO , Culprit broke up. In 1985 the band briefly reformed and released another demo. Twelve years later the band played a concert in Seattle in front of over 4,000 spectators. Since singer Jeff L'Heureux had recently been arrested, Scott Earl took over the vocals. In the following years the band played a few concerts.

In 2005 the compilation Innocent 'Til Proven Guilty was released . Five years later, Culprit officially reunited with the new singer Steve Nations and guitarist Tim Kleinman.
