Ranger is a Finnish speed metal band from Helsinki , which was founded in 2008 under the name Turbin .

history

The band was founded in 2008 under the name Turbin, and was also active the following year under this name before the name was changed to Ranger. In 2013 and 2014 the two EPs Knights of Darkness and Shock Skull were released . In 2014 the group was featured on Keep It True . In 2015 the debut album Where Evil Dwells was released , which reached number 13 in the Finnish album charts, followed in 2016 by the second album under the name Speed & Violence . Most of the songs on the second album are a bit older and were already being played live when the debut album was released.

style

Marek Protzak from Metal.de found that where Evil Dwells heard classic Speed Metal, but avoid being assigned to Power Metal or Thrash Metal . He described the music as a mixture of Kill 'Em All and Walls of Jericho . The singing is quite high, but a comparison with Judas Priest is not justified, as Rob Halford's singing is precise and sure, while Pontiac's voice is overturned and uncontrolled. Rather, a comparison to Evil Invaders is more appropriate. In an interview with Jens Peters from Rock Hard , Miko Sipilä stated that most of the songs were written by him, whereby the guitarists Mikael Haavisto and Ville Valtonen would now be more involved. The texts, on the other hand, are mostly by Dimitri Lamberg. Lamberg is very interested in horror films , so these are the main source of inspiration for his texts. The song Shock Troops comes from Sipilä and is his debut as a lyricist. Peters had reviewed Speed & Violence an issue earlier and found that it was playing Speed Metal, which was made use of by Agent Steel , Exciter and Dark Angel . The music sounds authentic, has a strong US influence and is on par with the debut album by Speedtrap or the most recent releases by Enforcer . Kevin Stewart-Panko from metalinjection.net wrote in his review of Speed & Violence that the album title alone is reminiscent of Speed and Thrash Metal from 1984 to 1986. The album cover is also based on Exciter's Heavy Metal Maniac . In addition to Exciter, influences from groups like Razor , Whiplash , Onslaught , Hallows Eve and Anthrax can also be heard during the times of Fistful of Metal . The music is not very original, but of high quality. The sound of the album is somewhat reminiscent of Slayer's Reign in Blood . The band follows a similar principle as Enforcer, Speedtrap, Volture and Cauldron .
