Krypts is a Finnish death doom and death metal band from Helsinki that was founded in 2008.

history

The band was formed in 2008, with three of the members already knowing each other from a previous band called Self-Hate, which was formed in 2003. In 2009 a first demo called Open the Crypt was released , which was recorded in the bedroom of drummer Otso Ukkonen in the spring of that year. Detest Records became aware of the band through the demo , about which a self-titled EP was released in 2011 . In February 2012, Dark Descent Records released their debut album Unending Degradation . A music video was also created for the song Beneath the Archaic .

style

Alfonso Perez from voicesfromthedarkside.de found that the band is playing almost Doom Metal-like Death Metal, which has an angry and hypnotic atmosphere. In an interview with him, Antti Kotiranta stated that the members were initially moved to the music-appropriate atmosphere by the computer game series Doom as well as horror literature and horror films and were later brought to the music itself by groups such as Metallica , Slayer , Down and Sentenced . Patrick Olbrich from Metal.de wrote in his review of Unending Degradation that it contains Death Metal in the old school style, which seems authentic and straightforward. However, a band like Bastard Priest would create a better sound. The group managed to create “a morbid atmosphere of antiquity and perversion”. The group also tries to provide variety to a certain extent. In an interview with Andreas Schiffmann from Rock Hard , Kotiranta said that Remnants of Expansion has entropy as one of the central themes. The lyrics for their songs would arise spontaneously and would hardly be edited. In the same issue, Andreas Schiffmann reviewed the album and described the music as tough and expansive Death Doom. However, the album is neither angry nor desperate or dissonant . Rather, the band “settled down in their negative world interpretation, their misanthropy is a salon pose that demands nothing by the fireplace, but gives the good feeling of being on the right side”.
