Adamantra is a Finnish progressive metal band from Helsinki that was formed in 2003.

history

The band was founded in 2003 when bassist Jukka Hoffrén recorded a few ideas for a song on a friend's computer. When the songs had taken their final form, Hoffrén brought in more members to form a band so that the songs could be played live. Tuomas Nieminen joined them as singer, Mikko Sepponen as drummer and Panu Kiskola as guitarist, whom Hoffrén was already known from previous bands. Guitarist Tommi Ahtila also joined the cast. In April 2006 a first EP was released on Tunerail Records under the name For Ever . As guest musicians, Risto Kupiainen and the singer Tapio Kuosma, who contributed the accompanying vocals , were represented. Keyboardist Janne Koivula joined in August of that year. The debut album Revival follows in 2009 . In August 2010 the band started writing, rehearsing and recording new songs. In the same year the keyboardist Christian "Chrism" Pulkkinen was added to the line-up. After a lengthy work process, the second album Act II: Silent Narratives was released in May 2014 .

style

Ricarda Schwoebel from Powermetal.de wrote in her review of Revival that the band sounds influenced by groups like Dream Theater and Cloudscape . In addition to harder tones, the group also use melodic elements and also work some epic metal into the songs. Scott Jessup from seaoftranquility.org described the music of Act II: Silent Narratives as symphonic progressive metal. The instruments are played on a demanding and complex level, the singing is clear, with occasional harder tones being used. Overall, the music is similar to that of Symphony X , Adagio , Circus Maximus and Seventh Wonder .
