history

2000–2003 foundation, early phase

Circus Maximus was founded in 2000 by Michael Eriksen and the brothers Mats and Truls Haugen; shortly afterwards Espen Storø and Glen Cato Møllen joined the group. Originally a cover band whose interpretations of Dream Theater and Symphony X songs were positively received, the band increasingly focused on composing their own works. Two demo CDs have been released that have received much attention in Norway, the USA and the EU .

2004-2006 1st Chapter

In April 2004 the band signed a contract with Intromental Management and a record deal with the North American label Sensory Records . A license agreement for Europe and Russia with Frontiers Records soon followed . Immediately after signing the contracts, the band began to compose and in May 2005 released their debut work "The 1st Chapter". In the same year a USA tour was completed, which took the band to Atlanta and included the ProgPower USA Festival as the highlight .

In November 2005 the keyboardist Espen Storø decided to leave the band for personal reasons and was replaced by Lasse Finbråten in early 2006.

In 2006 the band played again with their new keyboard player at the ProgPower USA Festival as well as many concerts in the Scandinavian region with bands like Kamelot , Pagan's Mind and Glenn Hughes .

2007-2008 isolates

In spring 2007 the band recorded their second studio album "Isolate", which was released on August 7, 2007. After that, the band toured many concerts, including the ProgPower Europe Festival, ProgPower Scandinavia , Sweden Rock Festival and the MetalHear Festival.

Between February 13, 2008 and March 5, 2008 the band toured with Dreamscape on the Symphony X "Paradise Lost Tour 2008".

At the end of 2008 the band members began to compose new material for the next album.

2009 – today

In 2009 Circus Maximus played at the "Smuget Festival" in Oslo and again at the ProgPower USA Festival.

At the beginning of 2010, the musicians went to the studio to record the new album, which according to the band should originally be released in summer 2010. Due to tendonitis on both arms of Mats Haugen, the release date was postponed.

On June 1, 2012 the album 'Nine' was released in Europe. In October 2012 Circus Maximus played at the LoudPark Festival in Saitama , Japan .

The 4th studio album Havoc was released in 2016 , followed by the live DVD Havoc in Oslo , which was released on August 4th 2017.
